About Hitch
Hitch is a startup building custom software and AI for growing businesses. We combine consulting with our own platform to deliver useful systems faster and at a lower cost than traditional software. Our customers are primarily trades and services businesses.
About the role
We are looking for an AI Solutions Engineer (Client Delivery) to help us deliver high-quality solutions to customers and grow the shared product. This is a hands-on software engineering and forward-deployed role. You will meet customers, understand how their businesses work, turn vague problems into practical software, automation or AI solutions, and help people adopt what you build. Your initial focus is an urgent trades and services customer project.
What you’ll do
- Meet directly with customers to understand workflows, wasted time and worthwhile problems; follow up independently.
- Turn vague business problems into concrete software, automation or AI solutions.
- Build and ship full-stack features, internal tools, integrations, automations and AI agents using TypeScript, relational databases and APIs.
- Integrate with existing systems through APIs, webhooks, MCPs, databases, email and messy third-party systems.
- Deploy what you build, observe it in the real world, fix issues and iterate from customer feedback.
- Explain solutions, train users, answer questions and improve the product based on adoption.
- Decide what belongs in the shared product versus what should remain customer-specific.
- Use AI coding tools heavily while reviewing, understanding and owning the software you ship.
- Design and explain database schemas for scalable solutions.
- Evaluate new AI and software tools for real value rather than novelty.
What we’re looking for
- Experience creating full-stack apps with TypeScript, relational databases and AI through professional, freelance, study or serious personal projects.
- You can explain core engineering fundamentals without AI help: what async means in TypeScript; the difference between a left and inner join and when to use each; how structured outputs work; and what a database transaction is.
- You have built automations and can explain the problem, your approach and the outcome.
- Strong communication skills and confidence speaking with Australian business owners and technical and non-technical people.
- Willingness to learn, seek help early and take ownership in a chaotic, fast-moving environment.
- Intrinsic motivation and the ability to operate with substantial autonomy.
- Computer Science, Software Engineering, related degree, or equivalent experience.
Nice to have
- Experience or understanding of trades businesses and small business operations.
- Sales, customer service or other customer-facing experience.
- Experience creating AI agents, tool-calling or MCP integrations.
- Startup or small-team experience.
- Built software that real people use.
- Experience integrating messy third-party APIs or CRM, service-management or accounting systems.
What success looks like
- Become progressively more independent with complex end-to-end customer work.
- Build and ship reliable solutions that customers use every day.
- Maintain strong customer relationships.
- Identify reusable product opportunities and help future projects move faster.
The role
- Permanent full-time role, 38 hours per week. Hybrid role in Brisbane. Employees must be based in Brisbane or nearby and able to attend in person in Brisbane.
- Salary: AUD $70,000–$110,000 plus superannuation, depending on capability and experience.
- Target start: ASAP.
You do not need ten years of experience or previous professional AI experience. You do need strong engineering fundamentals, evidence you can build things, and confidence turning that into software people use.
Apply with your CV and a short note or portfolio link showing one project or automation you have built. Tell us what problem it solved, what you owned and how it was used.
Pay: $70,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
