Reporting to the Head of Programs, Banyule Nillumbik or Whittlesea Tech School, this position suits someone who is creative, collaborative and passionate about STEM education, design and innovation.
As a STEM Communication Officer, you will play a key role in developing and facilitating student-centred STEM learning experiences using design-based learning approaches for secondary school students and teachers. Working collaboratively within the Tech School team, you will contribute to innovative programs, events and public engagement activities that promote STEM and inspire the next generation of innovators.
The role combines education, communication and creative technology to support program delivery across online channels, exhibitions, interactive learning environments and community events.
This is a 12 months fixed-term opportunity.
What You'll Do
- Facilitate STEM programs, workshops and events for students, teachers and community stakeholders
- Develop engaging student-centred learning experiences using digital, visual, audio and interactive media
- Prototype and create STEM education content, concepts and resources for learning delivery
- Support inquiry-based projects with secondary students and teachers
- Promote STEM and innovation initiatives across Melbourne Polytechnic and Tech School partnerships
- Participate in planning and delivery of Tech School events, exhibitions and activities
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support high-quality STEM engagement programs
- Provide guidance on presentation and exhibition of resources and artefacts within physical and digital learning spaces
- Support STEM communications activities and online engagement initiatives
- Undertake administrative and operational support activities as required
- Relevant qualifications and/or experience in Design, STEM education, Science, Technology or related fields
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical, social and environmental concepts to diverse audiences
- Experience developing and delivering engaging learning activities, content, materials or exhibits
- Strong digital, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a busy team environment and manage competing priorities
- Experience using new technologies, materials and creative approaches to deliver innovative learning experiences
- Commitment to Occupational Health & Safety, Anti-Discrimination, Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement principles
- Experience working with secondary schools, educators or young people
- Experience delivering public engagement activities, exhibitions or STEM events
- Knowledge of contemporary STEM education practices, innovation or design-thinking approaches
