Primary objective
Lead development and delivery of media and communication needs including managing communication projects and materials to
support department and NTG initiatives and programs. Provide high-level strategic marketing and communications advice to
clients, drive end-to-end project management including concept development, stakeholder engagement, procurement and delivery
of campaigns, events and activities. Develop high-quality digital, social and marketing content and collateral, while managing
priorities and identifying communication risks and opportunities
Context statement
The Department of Children and Families (DCF) cover complex portfolios including child protection, family and youth support,
homelessness, domestic, family and sexual violence. Our vision is for a safe and thriving Territory where children and adults
experiencing vulnerability are supported, families are responsible, and communities are strong. The Corporate Communications
team provides shared services across media and communications for the Department of Children and Families, and the Department
of People, Sport and Culture.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop and implement external and internal communication projects for departments supported through shared services.
2. Provide advice and support to the Senior Director Corporate Communications on marketing and communication issues and the
approach to achieve project implementation objectives within budget, brand guidelines and relevant timeframes.
3. Prepare marketing and communication materials for a range of internal and external audiences, often to tight deadlines.
4. Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients, stakeholders and contractors.
5. Undertake all marketing and communication projects with a focus on quality, timeframes, stakeholder engagement, and
consideration of political and stakeholder priorities and implications.
6. Work with external consultants providing communication, marketing and public relation services.
7. Ensure adherence to all Northern Territory Government and department communications policies and guidelines.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Strong interpersonal, consultation, negotiation and facilitation skills.
2. High level ability lead, develop and implement strategic communications plans and projects, including high level written and
oral communication skills, and understanding of target audiences and their specific needs.
3. Demonstrated understanding of contemporary marketing and communication techniques and practices including digital, photo,
video, social media and other emerging technologies as they apply to communications.
4. High-level knowledge and experience using Adobe Creative Suite applications.
5. Demonstrated strong client focus with proven experience working effectively in a multifaceted team to achieve common
objectives and ability to achieve results in a dynamic, changing environment with competing priorities.
6. High-level ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities to achieve required outcomes.
7. Ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience, in communications, marketing, or a relevant discipline.
2. Knowledge of NT Government communications and marketing policies and guidelines.
