About us:
Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service provide an extensive range of health services at more than 30 regional, rural and remote facilities across a geographical area of 142,900 square kilometres. Outside of Cairns Hospital, inpatient maternity services are offered at Atherton Hospital, Mareeba Hospital and Innisfail Hospital. These hospitals are able to provide low risk birthing services as well as pre and post natal care for women and their babies, including midwifery group practice (MGP).
Atherton Hospital provides medical, surgical, and maternity services to the town's approximately 8,000 residents. It also offers a wide range of specialist outpatient services and extends its support to rural communities through outreach programs. The hospital is located in the picturesque Atherton Tablelands, 1.5 hours drive from Cairns. The hospital was redeveloped in 2023 and provides outreach services to Malanda, Millaa Millaa, Mount Garnet, Ravenshoe, Croydon, Forsayth and Georgetown.
Mareeba Hospital services a local population of approximately 10,500 people, and provides a variety of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services. The facility has an overnight capacity of 52 beds, including 12 maternity beds, as well as supporting clinical and diagnostic services such as allied health, medical imaging, pharmacy, and pathology.
The Mareeba region features local attractions such as mountain bike riding, various wineries, and several coffee plantations, and is a short drive away from other scenic towns in the Atherton Tablelands region.
Innisfail Hospital services include emergency department, general medical and surgical, low risk maternity, chemotherapy, and renal dialysis. Innisfail Hospital has 49 inpatient beds and 7 emergency department treatment spaces. Beds include three high dependency unit beds and ten same day beds/bed alternatives.
The hospital serves a population of over 8000 people and is 1.5 hours' drive from Cairns. The Innisfail region is renowned for spectacular waterfalls, fishing, Mission Beach, the Family Islands, and World Heritage rainforest.
