This is a high‑impact role where you will shape how Optus engages with regulators, government and industry — helping drive outcomes that support investment, competition and better customer experiences.
What You’ll Do
Partnering closely with the EGM Regulatory Affairs and senior stakeholders across Corporate Affairs, Strategy and Commercial teams, you will:
Provide economic analysis and modelling to inform Optus’ regulatory policy positions and advocacy strategy
Develop and maintain robust economic and financial models assessing impacts on pricing, competition, investment and consumer outcomes
Conduct market and industry research, including benchmarking Australian and global regulatory frameworks, pricing structures and market dynamics
Contribute economic insight to regulatory submissions, consultation responses and executive briefings
Translate complex analysis into clear, practical, and actionable insights for senior leaders and non‑technical audiences
Support stakeholder engagement by providing evidence‑based narratives to strengthen advocacy positions
Monitor regulatory and policy developments and assess risks, opportunities and commercial impacts
Collaborate across teams to conduct scenario analysis, sensitivity testing and policy evaluation
What You’ll Bring
Strong grounding in microeconomics, regulatory economics, competition economics and market design
Proven ability to apply first‑principles economic theory to real‑world regulatory and commercial challenges
Advanced analytical capability including economic modelling, cost‑benefit analysis, pricing theory and demand modelling
Experience translating complex analysis into clear, compelling insights for diverse stakeholders
Demonstrated experience in regulatory economics, policy analysis or economic consulting (5–7+ years)
Exposure to working with regulators, government or policy bodies
Tertiary qualifications in economics, econometrics, finance, public policy or related discipline (postgraduate highly regarded)
Collaborative mindset with strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
