About Broadleaf Projects
Broadleaf Projects is a Melbourne-based project management and advisory consultancy delivering construction, energy and facilities projects.
Broadleaf has a strong presence in the tertiary sector and has delivered more than 300 projects for clients including the University of Melbourne, Monash University, RMIT, La Trobe University and Victoria University.
We have a culture of collaboration and accountability. We focus on doing the basics well, being proactive, supporting our teammates and clients, and finding sustainable and innovative ways to improve how projects are delivered.
Why Broadleaf?
At Broadleaf, you will work on projects that improve the places people learn, work, research, access services and move through every day.
You will be supported by experienced senior managers and directors, while having ownership across design, procurement and delivery. We are smaller than some of the major consultancies, which means you will be closer to senior decision-makers and clients, with the opportunity to help shape how we work.
What sets the role apart:
- Varied projects across education, research, institutional and live operational environments
- Direct exposure to experienced senior leaders and directors
- Mentoring and support without micromanagement
- Opportunity to grow into more complex projects and senior roles
- A business that is large enough to support innovation and small enough to act quickly on good ideas
- Flexible working arrangements, balanced with client and project commitments
- Competitive salary, discretionary increases and performance-based bonuses
- A diverse team and a supportive, tight-knit environment with low ego and high accountability
- An active social calendar - team lunches, dinners, and regular events throughout the year
The Role
You will manage, or support the management of, individual projects or defined workstreams within larger programs, from early scoping through to completion and handover.
Projects range from smaller refurbishments through to large capital works projects and broader programs valued at $100M+.
Many of our roles are delivered in an embedded capacity, working closely with client teams and their internal systems. Attendance at client offices is generally expected three to four days per week, with flexibility to work from home or from our CBD office outside of those commitments.
What You’ll Do
As a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager, you will help deliver client projects in live environments, while minimising disruption to operations and maintaining compliance with client standards and OHS requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Driving projects through scoping, business case, funding approvals, design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover
- Managing diverse stakeholder groups and translating user, operational and technical requirements into clear project outcomes
- Managing design compliance, departures, buildability reviews and safety in design processes
- Managing tendering and procurement in line with client probity requirements
- Planning works around live operations, access, staging and disruption impacts
- Administering contracts, including RFIs, claims, variations, EOTs, securities, insurances, practical completion and defects close-out
- Managing budgets, cashflow, and cost reporting
- Developing and driving project programmes
- Managing project risks and controls
- Tracking permits, approvals and compliance obligations
- Supporting project governance, approvals and reporting, including preparing agendas, leading meetings, issuing minutes and maintaining action registers
- Building strong client partnerships and effective relationships with consultants, contractors and project stakeholders
- Supporting safe delivery in line with client OHS systems and relevant legislation
For suitably experienced candidates, the role may include acting as the Superintendent or Principal’s Representative.
Skills & Experience
We are looking for someone with genuine enthusiasm for the role, a willingness to learn from senior team members, and the confidence to share learnings from their own experience.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of design coordination, buildability and delivery in live operational environments.
You will likely bring:
- Around 3–7 years’ experience in client-side project management or construction delivery with a head contractor
- Experience delivering building, refurbishment, fitout or capital works projects
- Exposure to feasibility, design, procurement and construction phases
- Experience in education, health, aviation or other live operational environments
- Experience with contractor management and contract administration
- Strong communication, documentation and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to quickly absorb client systems, processes, standards and reporting requirements
- Good attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
- A proactive approach, sound judgement and the ability to solve problems
- The ability to work autonomously while knowing when to draw on senior support
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and project management/reporting tools
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Project Management or a related discipline
