About the Project
Tetra Tech is supporting hazardous materials remediation and asbestos management activities associated with a major metals refinery closure project in Northern Australia.
The project forms part of a broader industrial closure and remediation program involving asbestos management, demolition support, hazardous materials assessment, airborne fibre monitoring, and remediation oversight within a complex remote industrial environment.
The Role
We are seeking a field-based consultant to support onsite hazardous materials remediation and asbestos management activities. This role is suited to experienced consultants who are comfortable working autonomously in active industrial environments and collaborating closely with contractors, project teams, and client representatives onsite.
You will be responsible for conducting asbestos inspections, airborne fibre estimation, clearance inspections, sample collection, and associated occupational hygiene-related activities in accordance with legislative requirements, approved methodologies, and project procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct asbestos inspections, airborne fibre monitoring, clearance inspections, and sample collection activities.
Operate, calibrate, maintain, and verify occupational hygiene and air monitoring equipment.
Support implementation and verification of asbestos control measures during remediation and demolition activities.
Maintain accurate field records, chain of custody documentation, and monitoring data.
Prepare clear field documentation and reporting outputs.
Participate in daily pre-starts, toolbox meetings, and contractor coordination activities.
Communicate field observations, elevated results, and identified risks to project personnel as required.
Support continuity of asbestos management activities through effective communication and structured handovers.
Maintain safe work practices and compliance with relevant legislation, Codes of Practice, and site procedures.
About You
You'll have:
You'll hold current Licensed Asbestos Assessor (LAA) certification recognised within Australia or have the ability to obtain certification shortly after commencement.
Demonstrated experience conducting airborne respirable fibre estimation, clearance inspections, and asbestos assessment activities.
Competency in operation, calibration, and maintenance of occupational hygiene and air monitoring equipment.
Ability to provide current Proficiency Testing Australia (PTA) round results, or equivalent recognised proficiency evidence.
Relevant occupational hygiene, hazardous materials, industrial, remediation, or heavy industry experience.
Ability to work autonomously within remote FIFO and active industrial environments.
Strong communication and technical documentation skills.
Current, unrestricted Australian Drivers License.
Ability to meet company & project medical requirements.
Highly Regarded:
Refinery, shutdown, demolition, or industrial decommissioning experience.
FIFO or remote project experience.
Experience supporting asbestos remediation or hazardous materials management activities.
