CatholicCare Diocese of Broken Bay is seeking an experienced and passionate
Safeguarding & Investigations Officer to join our Quality, Safeguarding, Risk & Compliance team.
This is a unique opportunity for a skilled investigator, risk professional, or safeguarding practitioner to play a critical role in protecting the people we support across our diverse community services. You will lead complex investigations, oversee reportable incidents and complaints, liaise with regulatory bodies, and contribute to a strong culture of safeguarding and continuous improvement.
About the Role
You will be responsible for monitoring and investigating reportable incidents, complaints, and safeguarding concerns across a broad range of services including disability, children's services, out-of-home care, aged care, and community programs.
You will provide expert advice to operational teams and leaders, ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory obligations, and support the organisation in identifying and managing safeguarding risks.
Key Responsibilities
Investigations & Incident Management
- Conduct complex and sensitive investigations into incidents, complaints, misconduct allegations, reportable conduct matters, and safeguarding concerns.
- Triage matters and determine appropriate reporting and investigation pathways.
- Gather and analyse evidence, conduct interviews, assess credibility, and prepare comprehensive investigation reports.
- Provide expert advice regarding incident severity, risk assessment, and escalation requirements.
Regulatory Reporting & Compliance
- Manage reportable incident notifications and ongoing engagement with regulatory bodies.
- Ensure compliance with reporting obligations across multiple regulatory frameworks.
- Liaise with statutory agencies, oversight bodies, and law enforcement where required.
- Maintain safeguarding registers, records, and investigation files.
Safeguarding Leadership
- Promote and model best-practice safeguarding principles throughout the organisation.
- Support operational teams to identify trends, risks, systemic issues, and improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to safeguarding education, training, and capability-building initiatives.
- Prepare reports and provide recommendations to senior leaders and governance forums.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with leaders across Operations, Human Resources, Work Health & Safety, and Quality teams.
- Maintain productive relationships with regulatory and safeguarding agencies.
About You
You are a highly organised and analytical professional with strong investigative skills and a genuine commitment to safeguarding vulnerable people.
You will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Law, Criminology, Community Services, Human Services, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in investigations, incident management, complaints handling, safeguarding, risk, compliance, quality, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding principles, procedural fairness, and risk management.
- Excellent report writing and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage complex and sensitive matters with professionalism, sound judgement, and discretion.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable:
- Experience within disability, out-of-home care, aged care, early learning, child and family services, or other human services environments.
- Experience working with regulatory, statutory, or oversight bodies.
- Formal training in investigations, safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, child protection, or risk management.
- Knowledge of relevant safeguarding legislation, standards, and regulatory frameworks.
