About the PositionThe position involves operating heavy commercial trucks requiring an endorsed heavy vehicle licence to transport bulk goods and commercial freight between depots, warehouses, commercial sites and customer facilities.This is a heavy vehicle Truck Driver position and is not a courier, parcel delivery or light-vehicle delivery role.
Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Driving heavy commercial trucks to transport bulk goods and freight
- Operating [rigid trucks / semi-trailers / B-doubles]
- Transporting freight between depots, warehouses and commercial sites
- Supervising or assisting with the loading and unloading of freight
- Conducting pre-start and post-trip vehicle safety inspections
- Checking brakes, tyres, lights, fluid levels and other vehicle components
- Reporting mechanical faults, vehicle damage and maintenance requirements
- Checking freight weights and ensuring compliance with legal load limits
- Ensuring loads are correctly positioned and evenly distributed
- Securing freight using appropriate restraints, chains, straps and coverings
- Ensuring goods are protected against movement, loss or damage during transport
- Checking consignment notes, loading documents and freight records
- Verifying the quantity and condition of goods before departure and upon arrival
- Maintaining accurate work diaries, driver logs and transport documentation
- Following approved routes, schedules and operational instructions
- Complying with fatigue-management and regulated driving-hour requirements
- Complying with road transport, mass, dimension and load-restraint requirements
- Complying with Chain of Responsibility and workplace safety obligations
- Communicating with transport coordinators, depot staff and customers
- Maintaining the cleanliness and safe operating condition of the allocated truck
Essential Requirements
- A current and valid Australian [HR / HC / MC] heavy vehicle driver’s licence
- At least [insert number] years of relevant heavy truck-driving experience
- Experience transporting bulk goods or commercial freight
- Knowledge of heavy vehicle safety and inspection requirements
- Knowledge of load restraint, load distribution and legal mass limits
- Understanding of fatigue-management and work diary requirements

- Ability to complete transport records accurately
- Ability to work independently and follow operational schedules
- Physical capacity to undertake freight-securing and loading-related duties
Desirable Requirements
- Forklift licence
- Basic or Advanced Fatigue Management accreditation
- Experience using electronic work diaries
- Regional or interstate heavy vehicle driving experience
- Experience operating semi-trailers, B-doubles or road trains
