Microbiology Registrar – 2027

About the Role
This is a Fixed Term Full-Time position for the 2027 training year within the Microbiology Department.
You will be responsible for providing high-quality diagnostic microbiology and infection prevention and control services in a tertiary paediatric setting. You will work closely with senior microbiologists and clinical teams to support patient care, infection management, and laboratory operations.
Classification will be in line with Medical Officer training positions (salary and conditions per enterprise agreement, plus superannuation).
What you’ll achieve
Contribute to diagnostic microbiology services including bacteriology, virology, and serology
Participate in clinical liaison and multidisciplinary discussions to support patient care
Assist in infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship activities
Develop technical and interpretive skills in paediatric and women’s microbiology
Engage in quality improvement and service development initiatives
Your skills and experience
Eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner in Australia
Demonstrated interest in microbiology and infectious diseases
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Commitment to ongoing education and professional development
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
About the Department
The Microbiology Department provides comprehensive diagnostic services to support the care of children and adolescents. A consulting Infectious Diseases service is provided to the Royal Women’s Hospital. The Department also provides medical support to the Children’s and Women’s Hospitals’ Infection Prevention and Control services and works closely with clinical teams to deliver timely and accurate results.
