Senior Project Officer

Employment type: Temporary Full Time up to October 2026
Salary: Clerk Grade 9/10 ($129,464 - $142,665 pa), plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
Your role
The Senior Project Officer is a dynamic and strategic role within the People stream of the Office of the Deputy Secretary – Strategy, Policy & Commissioning at the Department of Communities and Justice. The role leads a range of people-focused projects and initiatives that strengthen workforce capability, wellbeing, inclusion and organisational performance across SPC.
What you’ll do
As part of the Office of the Deputy Secretary team within Strategic, Policy and Commissioning division, you will be working in a fast-paced environment, the successful candidate partners with stakeholders at all levels, including providing strategic support, advice and workforce insights to the Deputy Secretary and SPC Executive leadership team. The role coordinates capability and development programs, delivers workforce initiatives and HR-related support, and drives projects that contribute to a positive, inclusive and high-performing workplace culture. The role leads coordination of key projects including the SPC Business Plan, PMES Action Plan, capability uplift programs, leadership and development initiatives, recruitment support, induction programs and workforce planning activities.
The role sits within the Business Management and Support (BMAS) team, which provides integrated workforce, communications, financial and executive support services across the Strategy, Policy & Commissioning (SPC) Division. Within BMAS, the role is part of the People stream, which leads strategic workforce initiatives that support capability, wellbeing, inclusion and organisation performance across SPC. The team operates in a collaborative and service-focused environment, working closely with the Deputy Secretary, SPC Executive, managers, HR business partners and staff across the division to deliver practical workforce solutions and foster a positive, inclusive and high-performing workplace culture.
What we’re looking for
The ideal candidate will be a highly organised and proactive project professional with experience leading workforce, organisation development or strategic people initiatives in a complex environment. They will have strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with senior executives, managers and staff, providing high-quality advice and support on workforce priorities.
The successful candidate will be comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously, translating strategic objectives into practical outcomes, delivering initiatives that enhance workforce capability, employee wellbeing, inclusion and organisational performance across SPC. They will be a collaborative and adaptable team member with excellent communication, problem solving and project management skills.
