Uarah Fisheries is one of Australia’s leading producers of Murray Cod, Golden Perch and Silver Perch, operating a modern hatchery and grow-out facility. Using specialised intensive aquaculture techniques and more than 40 years of in-house research and industry experience, we focus on producing high-quality Australian freshwater fish for domestic and international markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the full-cycle production of Murray Cod, Golden Perch and Silver Perch, including hatchery, nursery and grow-out operations, ensuring fish are supported from early life stages through to harvest size.
- Carry out routine feeding operations across ponds, tanks and recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), ensuring fish are fed according to production schedules and feeding behaviour is observed and reported.
- Support spawning and breeding activities by assisting with broodstock handling, egg collection, incubation preparation and larval transfer under supervision of senior staff.
- Monitor fish development stages including larvae, fingerlings and juvenile fish, ensuring correct stocking densities and assisting with grading, sorting and redistribution between systems.
- Observe fish behaviour and physical condition daily to identify early signs of stress, disease, abnormal swimming patterns or environmental imbalance, and report issues to supervisors.
- Assist in maintaining biosecurity and fish health management practices, including removal of dead or unhealthy fish, cleaning of equipment between systems, and maintaining separation between production batches.
- Carry out routine water system checks across ponds and RAS facilities, including visual and basic measurement monitoring of oxygen levels, temperature, water clarity and system flow conditions.
- Assist in operation and maintenance of aquaculture infrastructure, including pumps, aeration systems, filtration units, oxygenation systems, plumbing lines and water circulation equipment.
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of hatchery and grow-out infrastructure such as tanks, raceways, nets, screens, pipes and harvesting equipment to maintain production hygiene standards.
- Assist in fish harvesting operations including netting, crowding, lifting, grading, weighing and preparing fish for transport or sale, ensuring safe handling of live fish.
- Support stocking and transfer activities, including moving juvenile fish between hatchery, nursery and grow-out systems in accordance with production planning requirements.
- Assist in collecting basic production records such as feeding logs, mortality counts, stock movements and general system observations for farm reporting and traceability purposes.
- Support maintenance of farm infrastructure including ponds, bunds, water channels, tanks and equipment storage areas to ensure safe and efficient farm operations.
- Follow all workplace health and safety procedures, environmental management requirements, animal welfare standards and farm biosecurity protocols at all times.
- Work collaboratively with hatchery and grow-out teams to ensure smooth daily operations and efficient production flow across all stages of aquaculture production
