About the Opportunity
Join the Aboriginal Health Team at Maitland Hospital and help improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people, families and communities across the Maitland, Hunter Valley and Newcastle regions.
In this rewarding role, you'll deliver culturally safe, person-centred care across hospital and community settings, supporting clients to access healthcare, advocating for their needs, and building trusted relationships that make a real difference. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams and Aboriginal communities, you'll contribute to positive, culturally informed health outcomes every day.
No two days are the same, offering opportunities to provide health education, support care planning, conduct community outreach, and help clients navigate the health system with confidence. You'll also be supported with ongoing training and professional development, with pathways to grow your career as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner.
About the team
The Aboriginal Health Team works in partnership with Aboriginal patients, families, communities and healthcare providers to deliver culturally safe, person-centred care across hospital and community settings.
You'll join a supportive multidisciplinary team of Aboriginal Health Workers, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and operational leaders who value collaboration, cultural safety and continuous learning. You'll be supported through cultural supervision, ongoing education and professional development in a connected and inclusive team environment.
Based at Maitland Hospital in Metford, you'll work in a modern health service offering a broad range of specialties, with convenient access to community services, public transport and local amenities.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage confidently with Aboriginal people, families, communities and healthcare professionals.

A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Compassion, empathy and a respectful, non-judgemental approach to care.

Well-developed problem-solving and advocacy skills to support clients in navigating the health system.

A willingness to learn, grow and undertake a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice (if not already qualified).

A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development to help improve health outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities.
