Business Unit
The Civil Infrastructure team at Council is responsible for maintaining and improving public assets such as roads, footpaths, drainage, signage, and recreational infrastructure across the region. They ensure these assets are safe, functional, and well-presented for the community through regular inspections, repairs, and upgrades.
The Opportunity
2 x Full-Time, ongoing positions available!
As a Maintenance Officer, you’ll be responsible for the upkeep and minor upgrades of Council assets across East Gippsland. Your tasks will include maintaining footpaths, kerbs, signage, and recreational facilities, ensuring they remain safe and accessible for the community. The role requires skills in concreting, basic repairs, and operating equipment such as excavators and bobcats, along with a solid understanding of asset maintenance across parks, reserves, and public spaces. Experience with traffic signage regulations and the ability to work across varied outdoor locations with minimal supervision are key to success in this role.
Key responsibilities include:•
- Fix and upgrade kerbs and channels across the region to keep roadsides safe and tidy.
- Repair and improve footpaths by replacing sections, patching damage, removing weeds, and smoothing uneven surfaces.
- Check and fix structures in parks, reserves, and foreshore areas to make sure they’re safe and in good condition.
- Inspect and maintain Council signs, guideposts, fireplugs, and marker posts so they stay visible and working properly.
- Work with other Council teams, including Open Space (Parks and Gardens) and Assets and Engineering.
What we're looking for:
- Experience maintaining public assets like footpaths, signage, and community facilities
- Ability to use tools and equipment safely, with good repair and maintenance skills
- Good understanding of safety requirements and working outdoors in varied conditions
- Reliable team player who can manage their time, communicate well, and provide good service to the community
