Summary
Our client, Budget Forks, is seeking to employ a Motor Mechanic who will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, servicing, repairing and maintaining a range of motor vehicles to ensure they operate safely, efficiently and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and relevant road safety standards.
The role will involve identifying mechanical, electrical and electronic faults, utilising diagnostic equipment and technical information to determine appropriate repair methods, carrying out repairs and component replacements, performing scheduled maintenance and servicing activities, and maintaining accurate records of all work completed in accordance with company and industry requirements.
The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Inspecting motor vehicles to identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults affecting engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension, driveline components, and other vehicle systems.
- Using diagnostic scan tools, computer-based testing equipment, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications to diagnose faults and determine appropriate repair procedures.
- Dismantling, removing, repairing, replacing, and refitting engine assemblies, transmissions, steering systems, suspension components, braking systems, and other mechanical parts.
- Repairing or replacing worn, damaged, or defective parts, including mechanical, electrical, and electronic components, and reassembling vehicle systems after repairs.
- Performing scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid checks and replacements, engine tune-ups, brake inspections, safety checks, and other routine maintenance tasks.
- Testing, adjusting, and calibrating repaired mechanical parts and vehicle systems to ensure proper operation, performance, reliability, and compliance with road safety requirements.
- Conducting road tests and post-repair checks to confirm vehicle faults have been rectified and that vehicles are safe and suitable for customer use.
- Checking vehicles for roadworthiness issues and advising on required repairs, maintenance, or replacement of parts to meet relevant safety standards.
- Maintaining accurate records of inspections, diagnostic findings, servicing, parts used, repair work completed, and customer or workshop instructions.
- Responding to vehicle breakdowns, urgent repairs, or unscheduled maintenance requirements where required by the business.
- Ensuring all work is performed in accordance with workplace health and safety procedures, workshop standards, and manufacturer repair guidelines.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:
- AQF Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology, or an equivalent trade qualification relevant to motor vehicle servicing and repair.
- At least 12 months of recent full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience working as a Motor Mechanic, Automotive Technician, or in a closely related automotive mechanical role.
- Demonstrated experience diagnosing, servicing, repairing and maintaining motor vehicles in a commercial workshop environment.
- Ability to use diagnostic scan tools, workshop equipment and manufacturer service information to identify and rectify vehicle faults.
- Sound knowledge of engine, transmission, braking, steering, suspension and electrical vehicle systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills and commitment to delivering quality customer service.
- Current driver's licence preferred.
