Motor Mechanic
Function/Purpose
Perform Light mechanical repairs, servicing and inspections with the outcome of providing the best
customer experience possible at JAX Tyres and Auto.
Responsibilities
Light Mechanical
- Complete JAX vehicle inspection reports on all customer vehicles ensuring all completed work is
noted and recommendations are flagged and communicated to the customer.
- Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
- Conduct a complete range of motor vehicle diagnoses in accordance with industry standards and
practices.
- Utilise your knowledge and skills to acquire vehicle parts and accessories for repairs as required
with a commercially minded focus.
- Perform thorough maintenance on machinery and equipment.
Safety
- Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting,
climbing, wearing of PPE etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to
Manager immediately.
- Assist in keeping store, equipment and tools in safe operating condition.
- Effectively communicate with other workshop staff and report any unserviceable equipment.
Customer Experience
- Provide fair, reasonable and timely quotes and estimates.
- Translate technical / industry jargon into easily understood information for customers to make
decisions with.
- Build a repeat customer base through engaging customers with expert advice in the areas of
preventative maintenance and servicing recommendations.
- Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to customers when
appropriate.
- Assist sales staff with customer enquires as required.
Other
- Undertake other reasonable duties as assigned (e.g. wheel aligning, fitting and balancing
tyres).
- Assist and guide the work of apprentices in a professional and friendly manner
Equipment Used:
Automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing equipment, tyre repairing equipment, small hand
tools, laves, grinders, air-powered tools, hoists and lift equipment.
Working Conditions:
Moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work inside and
outside around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts. Exposure to dampness and
humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
Qualifications
- Cert III Light Mechanical (equivalent or higher).
- Current Tradesperson license (state equivalent).
- Valid and current Australian Drivers Licence.
- Current First Aid Certificate.

- Ability to accurately diagnose and repair mechanical issues on all light vehicle makes and
models.
- Ability to follow established industry and JAX procedures and practices.
- Ability to communicate clearly with a range of with staff and customers.
- Strong decision-making skills based on accurate and timely analyses.
- Demonstrate a strong sense of integrity, ethics and dependability.
- Ability to work under pressure and independently.
- A strong commitment to all health and safety culture.
- Very good physical strength and fitness.

About the Role
JAX Tyres & Auto Sutherland is excited to welcome a new, experienced Motor Mechanic to this exciting new team. In this role, you will use your expertise to analyse and repair all light vehicle makes and models, with the bonus of working in a well-equipped and safety-first workshop. You will work closely with tyre technicians, wheel aligners and sales staff to deliver the best service to our valued customers, ensuring everyone leaves our store with peace of mind driving. Your main day-to-day tasks would include:
- Thoroughly inspecting and successfully identifying vehicle faults
- Light vehicle servicing, with a focus on wheels, brakes and suspension
- Providing your expert advice and reporting potentially dangerous risks of your customer’s vehicles
- Safely operating hoists and conducting road tests
- Occasionally performing wheel alignments and post alignment checks as required
- Above award salary + bonuses + OT available
About you
- Certificate III in Light Vehicle (if applicable) / relevant motor mechanic qualification along with prior experience
- A current Australian driver's licence
- You are an excellent problem-solver
- You can work cooperatively in a team environment, but also confidently when unsupervised
- Excellent communication skills when dealing with customers and team members
- Knowledge and compliance of work health and safety practices
- Experience with completing road worthy inspections preferred otherwise we can support gaining qualifications for the successful applicant.

Pay: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
