The Head of Sub School provides strategic and operational leadership for students across two year levels, and is responsible for creating a positive, inclusive and high expectation culture that promotes student learning, wellbeing and engagement.
Working as a key member of the School Leadership Team, the Head of Sub School leads year level teams and student support structures, ensuring that every student is known, supported and empowered to succeed.
The role is responsible for overseeing student wellbeing, attendance, engagement, transitions, behaviour support and the ongoing support of the College's Belonging & Inspire curriculum. The Head of Sub School will champion School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports (SWPBS), restorative practices and evidence-informed approaches that promote student success and strengthen relationships across the College community.
This position will contribute significantly to the implementation of the College Strategic Plan and the development of a connected, inclusive and aspirational learning community.

Student Wellbeing, Engagement and Culture
- Lead the wellbeing, engagement, attendance and behavioural support structures for Years 7 & 8.
- Promote a culture of high expectations, inclusion, belonging and aspiration for all students.
- Lead the implementation of School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports (SWPBS) and restorative practices across the Junior School.
- Ensure student voice, agency and leadership opportunities are embedded throughout junior school programs.
- Work proactively with students and families to address barriers to learning and engagement.
- Oversee the development and implementation of individual and cohort based support plans as required.
- Manage and coordinate responses to complex student wellbeing matters and critical incidents in partnership with relevant leaders and support services.
Leadership of Junior School Programs
- Lead the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of unique year level experiences that enrich student learning and engagement.
- Develop and coordinate curricular and co-curricular opportunities that strengthen student connectedness, identity and success.
- Ensure effective planning and delivery of key student events, camps, celebrations, assemblies and leadership programs.
Teaching and Learning Leadership
- Support staff to utilise student achievement, engagement and wellbeing data to inform teaching practice and intervention strategies.
- Work collaboratively with Learning Specialists and Learning Area Leaders to improve learning outcomes for students.
- Monitor student progress and coordinate targeted responses for students requiring additional support or extension.
- Promote a culture of collective responsibility for student growth and achievement.
Transition and Pathway Leadership
- Lead the successful transition of students into and through the Junior School.
- Develop and strengthen partnerships with local primary schools and families to support positive Year 6 to Year 7 transitions.
- Collaborate with Middle School, Senior School and Careers teams to ensure seamless pathways through Years 7-12.
- Support students and families during key transition points across the College.
Staff Leadership and Capacity Building
- Provide leadership and support to Year Level Leaders and other staff working within the Junior School.
- Build the capability of staff to effectively support student wellbeing, engagement and learning.
- Develop and facilitate professional learning aligned to College priorities, including SWPBS, restorative practices and student engagement.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
Community and Family Engagement
- Develop strong partnerships between the College, families and the wider community.
- Lead communication processes relating to student wellbeing, engagement and achievement.
- Actively engage families as partners in their child's learning and development.
- Represent the College at relevant community meetings, events and professional networks.
Policy, Systems and Compliance
- Lead the development, implementation and review of policies and procedures relating to student wellbeing, behaviour and engagement.
- Ensure effective documentation and communication of student support and management processes.
- Monitor compliance with Department of Education requirements and College policies.
- Support the implementation of Department initiatives and reforms relating to student engagement, wellbeing and inclusion.
- Other duties as directed by the Principal.
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
