About your role:
The Principal Policy Officer position sits within the Child Protection, Justice Health and Wellbeing unit of System Policy Branch. System Policy Branch leads development of the Department's strategic policy and program response for priority patients. This includes key responsibility for major service interfaces including Primary Care, Aged Care, Disability and the NDIS, Correctional Centres, Youth Justice and Child Protection systems. This role leads a range of strategic policy and program activities to enable Queensland Health to efficiently and effectively discharge its system manager functions, particularly focused on child protection and health policy.
As a Principal Policy Officer, your key responsibilities will include:
Undertake research and critical analysis to identify and advise on strategic policy opportunities, priorities and issues relevant for health service delivery for children and families.
Initiate and manage, in consultation with key stakeholders, the development of strategic policies that address priority health issues, population groups and reforms in the health system.
Provide expert advice and support on the development of strategic and State-wide policy and issues for Queensland Health that is consistent with strategic priorities.
Prepare high-level briefing documents, submissions, correspondence and reports.

You will have the ability to develop your management skills by leading projects, mentoring colleagues and networking across Queensland Health, government agencies and non-governmental organisations. You will work closely with a high-performing and collaborative team in the Child Protection, Justice Health and Wellbeing unit, and alongside committed experts working in clinical, policy and social services, to deliver health services to children and families in Queensland.
Role fit
The successful applicant will have a proven track record leading stakeholder engagement, analysing and interpreting data and performing critical analysis to develop well-informed health policy. You will have strong communication and writing skills and be experienced preparing policy materials and briefings for a range of audiences. You will have demonstrated ability to collaborate with clinicians, government agencies or community partners to achieve high-quality policy outcomes in the areas of health or social services. Experience with policy development for programs providing support for children and families will be highly regarded.
