Austral have an exciting, yet challenging, opportunity for Deckhands and Fishing Hands to join our Northern Finfish Fishery team in Darwin.
As Deckhand/ Fishing Hand, you will be required to:
- Comply with Company Drug and Alcohol Testing;
- Support the berthing & unberthing of the vessel when in Port;
- Handle the vessel ropes and winches whilst undertaking fishing operations;
- Assist with baiting and hauling of fish traps;
- Sort catch by species;
- Process catch and load into the brine tank;
- Assist with the unloading of catch when docked;
- Perform routine maintenance activities as directed by the Skipper/ Master;
- Abide by the instructions of the Skipper/ Master and standard operating procedures of the vessel.
Successful candidates:
- Have at least 2 years recent experience trap fishing;
- Hold a certificate in vessel Safety Training (ideally, STCW95 and or equivalent) consisting of:
- Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
- Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR)
- Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF)
- Security Awareness Training (SAT)
- Elementary First Aid (EFA)- obtained within the last 12 months
- Must live in Darwin on a permanent basis.
