Are you a hands-on, highly organised professional who takes pride in getting the details right? South Melbourne Primary School is looking for an experienced Facilities Manager to take ownership of our grounds, buildings, contractor relationships, and workplace safety compliance.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety — one day you might be coordinating a contractor on site, the next you're conducting a safety audit, and the next you're rolling up your sleeves for some hands-on maintenance or gardening. If you're someone who thrives on ticking things off the list and leaving things better than you found them, we'd love to hear from you.
About the role
As Facilities Manager, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep and safety of our school site. You'll manage contractors and tradespeople, drive our OHS compliance program, oversee a schedule of preventative maintenance, and pitch in with general maintenance and grounds work as needed. You'll also help set up and pack down for major school events, and keep accurate records of maintenance and compliance activity.
What you'll bring
- Experience managing facilities, contractors, and OHS compliance, ideally in a school or similar environment
- Solid, practical maintenance and grounds/gardening skills, along with the physical capacity for hands-on work
- Strong attention to detail and a genuine drive to see tasks through to completion
- The ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands, and also collaborate well within a team
- Confidence using systems or registers to track maintenance, compliance, and contractor performance
Why join us
- A varied, hands-on role with genuine autonomy and responsibility
- Generous leave, with school holiday breaks included as part of the role — approximately 11 weeks per year
- Flexibility to negotiate additional paid work during school holiday periods if desired
- Supportive leadership and team culture
