About Harbourfront Hotel
Harbourfront Hotel is a hospitality venue located in South Townsville, Queensland, offering a diverse menu featuring modern Australian cuisine, seafood, grilled dishes and contemporary pub favourites.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis.
About the Role
The Chef will be responsible for preparing and cooking menu items to a consistently high standard and contributing to the efficient day-to-day operation of the commercial kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook and present dishes in accordance with menu specifications and established kitchen standards;
- Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation;
- Assist with menu planning and development;
- Monitor food preparation, portion control and food costs;
- Assist with stock control, ordering and stock rotation;
- Ensure appropriate storage and handling of food and ingredients;
- Maintain food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards;
- Minimise food wastage and contribute to effective cost control;
- Coordinate with other kitchen staff during preparation and service;
- Maintain kitchen equipment, workstations and food preparation areas to required standards; and
- Assist with the supervision and training of junior kitchen staff where required.
Skills and Experience
Applicants should have:
- A relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or equivalent;
- At least 2 years of relevant experience as a Chef;
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen environment;
- Sound knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations;
- Good understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements;
- Ability to work effectively in a busy, high-volume kitchen;
- Good communication and teamwork skills; and
- A reliable and professional approach to work.
Experience in seafood preparation, modern Australian cuisine or a high-volume hospitality venue will be highly regarded.
Work Requirements
