About the Victorian Early Childhood Regulatory Authority (VECRA)
The Victorian Early Childhood Regulatory Authority (VECRA) is the statutory authority responsible for regulating early childhood education and care services in Victoria. VECRA works to ensure the safety, wellbeing and development of children through effective regulation, compliance, quality assessment and continuous improvement across the early childhood sector.
The Victorian Early Childhood Regulatory Authority (VECRA) is responsible for the regulation and quality assessment of Victorian early childhood education and care services to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and developmental outcomes of children across Victoria.
VECRA regulates approximately 5,000 services including family day care, outside school hours care, long day care and kindergarten programs, as required by the Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010 (National Law). VECRA also regulates services operating under the Victorian Children's Services Act 1996 (Children's Services Act); these include occasional care and limited hours services.
VECRA is responsible for:
- approving providers and services as required by the National Law and Children's Services Act
- monitoring service compliance and conducting investigations in response to notifications and complaints
- assessment and rating of family day care, outside school hours care, long day care and kindergarten programs against the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and School Age Care
- undertaking compliance and enforcement activities
- supporting national quality reforms and legislative policy development.
VECRA is also the integrated sector regulator of the Child Safe Standards for all early childhood services in Victoria.
About the Role
The Victorian Early Childhood Regulatory Authority is seeking an experienced and collaborative Director Compliance and Enforcement.
The Director, Compliance and Enforcement is responsible for leading the Authority's compliance, investigations, intelligence, and enforcement functions under the National Quality Framework and relevant legislation governing Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) services.
The role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure regulatory risks to children's safety, wellbeing, and educational outcomes are identified, assessed, and addressed through timely, proportionate, and effective regulatory action. The Director leads a modern, intelligence-led compliance and enforcement program that promotes regulatory compliance, deters misconduct, and maintains public confidence in the ECEC sector.
As a member of the Executive Management Group, the Director contributes to organisational strategy, regulatory effectiveness, and continuous improvement across the Authority.
