Titan Steel Frames & Trusses Pty Ltd is a Queensland-based steel framing and truss business involved in the manufacture and supply of light-gauge steel framing systems for residential and commercial construction projects.
We are seeking a Civil Engineering Technician to join our growing technical and production team.
The successful candidate will provide technical support for the planning, manufacture, quality control and installation of steel wall frames, roof trusses and associated structural components. The position will work closely with engineers, project personnel, production staff, estimators, builders and site teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Civil and Structural Engineering Professionals with technical requirements relating to steel wall frames, roof trusses and associated building components.
- Prepare and review technical sketches, drawings, schedules, charts, calculations and tabulations for steel framing and truss projects.
- Interpret architectural drawings, structural engineering drawings, specifications and project documentation to determine project requirements.
- Collect and analyse construction and engineering data and undertake technical calculations relating to dimensions, quantities, loads, materials and project requirements.
- Undertake quantity take-offs and assist with estimating the quantities and costs of steel, components, fixings, labour and other materials required for projects.
- Assist in preparing material schedules, cutting lists, component schedules and other technical documentation required for manufacturing and construction.
- Check steel framing and truss specifications against engineering drawings, project requirements and relevant technical documentation.
- Inspect manufactured wall frames, roof trusses and associated components to verify dimensions, materials, connections and workmanship against approved drawings and specifications.
- Assist with testing and evaluating construction materials and steel components to ensure they meet specified project and quality requirements.
- Record inspection results, measurements and technical information and prepare reports for review by engineering and project personnel.
- Identify discrepancies between architectural drawings, engineering documentation, manufacturing information and actual site conditions and refer technical issues to the appropriate Engineer or Project Manager.
- Assist with investigating manufacturing, installation and construction issues and provide technical information to support corrective actions.
- Conduct site inspections and take measurements where required to confirm dimensions, installation conditions and compliance with project documentation.
- Assist in monitoring steel frame and truss installation works to ensure work is completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and project requirements.
- Assist with ensuring finished works and manufactured products comply with relevant specifications, regulations, contractual requirements and engineering documentation.
- Prepare and maintain technical records, inspection reports, quality documentation, material records and project files.
- Assist with developing work programs and production schedules and review technical requirements for accuracy, adequacy and feasibility.
- Liaise with engineers, builders, project managers, drafting personnel, production staff and installers regarding technical and construction requirements.
- Provide technical assistance to the manufacturing team regarding drawings, dimensions, material specifications, component identification and production requirements.
- Assist in monitoring material utilisation and identifying opportunities to minimise material waste while maintaining engineering and quality requirements.
- Support quality assurance and continuous improvement activities relating to steel frame and truss manufacturing and installation.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate should have:
- Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree or higher qualification in Civil Engineering, Civil Construction Design, Civil Engineering Design or a closely related discipline.
- Previous experience in civil engineering, structural construction, building component manufacturing, steel framing, trusses or a related construction environment is highly regarded.
- Ability to interpret architectural and structural engineering drawings.
- Experience with technical calculations, measurements, quantity take-offs and material estimation.
- Knowledge of construction materials and quality inspection processes.
- Understanding of construction specifications, engineering documentation and technical standards.
- Experience using CAD, engineering, estimating or construction software would be advantageous.
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate technical documentation.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with engineers, builders, production teams and site personnel.
Desirable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following will be highly regarded:
- Light Gauge Steel (LGS) framing
- Steel wall frame manufacturing
- Steel roof trusses
- Frame and truss detailing
- Construction material testing or inspection
- Quantity take-offs and estimating
- Production or manufacturing quality control
- Residential or commercial construction
- CAD/design software
- Site inspection and construction documentation
The Role
This is a hands-on technical position combining engineering support, technical documentation, material calculations, estimating, manufacturing quality control and construction/site inspection.
The Civil Engineering Technician will work in support of engineering professionals and will play an important role in ensuring Titan's steel framing and truss products are manufactured and installed in accordance with project drawings, specifications and technical requirements.
Pay: $85,000.00 – $105,000.00 per year
