About the Role:
This position provides technical support for the School of Design and the Built Environment’s teaching and research activities, with a particular focus on the Collaboration Hub and other specialised teaching spaces. The role supports staff and students through equipment setup, maintenance, troubleshooting and safe work practices, helping to ensure these learning and research environments operate effectively and safely.
You will work as part of a collaborative technical team, helping to establish and nurture a vibrant community of hands-on makers. This will contribute to a welcoming, student-centred environment that encourages curiosity, experimentation, and interdisciplinary learning. Your expertise and approachability will directly enhance the student experience and support learning through making.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conduct health and safety inductions for staff and students using specialised teaching and research spaces.
- Provide advice and practical support to academic staff and students in the use of equipment required for teaching and research activities, including large-format printing, plotting and scanning.
- Prepare and set up practical classes in a timely and organised manner.
- Maintain and clean equipment and work areas used in the School’s teaching and research programs.
- Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs, and provide technical support for equipment installation and troubleshooting.
- Install, test, monitor, fault-find, maintain and repair equipment within the area.
- Liaise with DTS, Curtin Properties and equipment suppliers to ensure equipment is operational and fit for purpose.
- Support the purchase, registration, servicing, loaning, disposal and stocktake of equipment and consumables in line with University policies and procedures, and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain storage areas and ensure delivered goods, including chemicals and equipment, are checked, catalogued, stored and secured in accordance with University and School procedures.
- Ensure occupational health and safety requirements are followed at all times.
- Prepare materials and ensure resources for classes and field work are organised in advance to support teaching and research activities.
- Provide support to Technical Officers in relevant areas as directed.
- Participate in multi-skilling and professional development activities to maintain up-to-date technical and operational knowledge.
- Undertake other administrative duties as reasonably required, consistent with the responsibilities and accountabilities of the role.
Role Requirements:
- As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
- This is a part-time role at 0.8 FTE, worked across four days per week on campus. Monday, Wednesday and Friday are required working days, with the fourth day to be either Tuesday or Thursday.
