We are seeking a skilled and motivated Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join our Fleet & Logistics team. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, diagnosing and repairing a diverse range of heavy vehicles including waste trucks and road sweepers through to other plant equipment to ensure our fleet remains safe, compliant and operational.
- Perform scheduled servicing, inspections, preventative maintenance
- Diagnose and repair complex hydraulic, electrical, engine, and driveline faults.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Council policies.
- Maintain accurate electronic maintenance and safety records.
- Identify and report hazards, incidents, and near misses.
- Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to apprentices and team members.
- Work collaboratively to achieve team objectives and minimise vehicle downtime
- Certificate III in Automotive Engineering (Heavy Vehicle or Heavy Mobile Plant).
- Current MVRIA Mechanic's Licence.
- Current Class C Driver's Licence.
- Minimum one year post-trade experience servicing and repairing heavy vehicles.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship
- HR Driver's Licence.
- RMS Vehicle Examiner's Licence (Heavy Vehicles).
- Certificate III in Automotive Electrical.
- Forklift Licence.
- Dogging High Risk Work Licence.
- Experience servicing waste collection vehicles, including side and rear-loading compactors.
- Sound hydraulic and automotive electrical experience.
- Experience maintaining a diverse fleet of vehicles and plant equipment.
This is a temporary position expected to be available for up to 12 months. This role operates on an afternoon shift roster:
- Monday to Thursday: 1:00pm – 10:30pm
- First Friday: 12:00pm – 4:00pm
- Second Friday: Rostered Day Off (RDO)

- Package: $69,785 - $73,858 base salary, plus allowances totalling $26,003 (including afternoon shift penalties) plus 12% superannuation.
