- Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality speech pathology services within an educational setting, including assessment, analysis, reporting, consultation with families and staff, and the development of practical recommendations that support student learning, communication, participation and engagement.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in evidence-based speech pathology practice, including the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of individual, small-group and classroom-based supports and interventions.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, including teachers, education support staff, school leaders, allied health professionals, families and external agencies, to improve outcomes for students.
- Demonstrated ability to build the capability of teachers and education support staff through professional learning, coaching, modelling and consultation in areas relating to speech, language, communication and inclusive classroom practice.
- Highly developed communication, interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to establish positive and respectful relationships with students, families, staff and professionals within and beyond the school community.
The Role
The Speech Pathologist will work as part of Balambalam Primary School's broader Inclusion and Wellbeing Team to support students to communicate, participate and engage successfully in learning and school life.
As a Supported Inclusion School, Balambalam Primary School is committed to ensuring students receive the level of support they need while remaining connected to high expectations, quality teaching, their peers and their classroom community.
The Speech Pathologist will contribute specialist knowledge and expertise to our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), working across universal, targeted and intensive levels of support according to identified student need.
The position will have a particular focus on:
- supporting the development of students¿ speech, language and communication skills through evidence-based practice
- identifying communication needs that may impact a student's learning, wellbeing, participation and engagement
- conducting appropriate speech, language and communication assessments, analysing results and developing clear and practical recommendations
- planning, delivering and evaluating interventions according to identified student needs
- working collaboratively with teachers and education support staff to embed communication strategies and adjustments within classroom practice
- supporting the implementation of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), visual supports and other communication systems where appropriate
- consulting with families and relevant professionals to support consistency across school, home and other settings
- building the knowledge and capability of staff to understand and respond effectively to diverse communication needs
- contributing to whole-school approaches that strengthen communication, inclusion, participation and student independence.
The Speech Pathologist will work under the direction of the Assistant Principal ¿ Inclusion and members of Leadership. They will support and work alongside leaders, teachers, education support staff, wellbeing staff and other allied health professionals.
Student Learning and Participation
The Speech Pathologist will:
- develop positive and respectful relationships with students that support communication, participation and engagement
- identify barriers to student communication, access and participation and work collaboratively to develop appropriate adjustments and supports
- provide recommendations that are practical, purposeful and able to be embedded within everyday classroom practice
- support teachers and education support staff to implement strategies consistently across learning environments
- contribute to the development, implementation and review of targeted student learning and support plans where appropriate
- promote student independence by ensuring supports enable participation rather than create unnecessary dependence on adults
- use assessment, observation and other evidence to monitor student progress and determine appropriate next steps.
Responsibilities
As well as performing the responsibilities required within this Education Support range, the Speech Pathologist at Balambalam Primary School will work collaboratively with the broader Inclusion and Wellbeing Team to:
- provide high-quality speech pathology assessment, consultation, intervention and support for students with identified or emerging communication needs
- undertake formal and informal assessment of speech, receptive and expressive language, social communication and other relevant areas within the scope of speech pathology practice
- analyse assessment information and communicate findings clearly to staff, families and relevant professionals
- develop clear, evidence-informed and achievable recommendations that support students within their classroom and broader school environment
- plan, implement and evaluate individual and small-group speech pathology interventions
- contribute specialist expertise to Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention planning within the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports
- work collaboratively with teachers to strengthen Tier 1 classroom practice and ensure communication supports and adjustments are embedded within everyday teaching and learning
- provide consultation, modelling and coaching to teachers and education support staff to support the implementation of recommended strategies
- contribute to the development and implementation of communication supports, including AAC systems, visual supports and accessible communication environments where appropriate
- contribute to Student Support Group meetings, Individual Education Plans and multidisciplinary case discussions as required
- maintain accurate, timely and confidential assessment records, intervention plans, progress notes and other relevant documentation
- regularly monitor and evaluate the impact of intervention and adjust supports in response to student progress and evidence
- communicate and collaborate with families to develop shared understandings of student strengths, needs and strategies that can support communication
- liaise with external speech pathologists, allied health professionals, Student Support Services and relevant agencies to support coordinated service provision
- contribute to professional learning for teachers and education support staff in areas relating to speech, language, communication and inclusive practice
- support staff to recognise communication needs and understand how these may present within learning, behaviour, social interaction and participation
- contribute to the development of whole-school systems and practices that promote communication accessibility and inclusion
- work collaboratively with other members of the Inclusion and Wellbeing Team to ensure supports are coordinated, purposeful and responsive to student need
- contribute positively to the ongoing development of inclusive practice at Balambalam Primary School.

Balambalam Primary School is seeking a Speech Pathologist to join our team in 2027.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a young and growing Supported Inclusion school and contribute to the continued development of inclusive practice across our school. We are looking for an experienced, relational and collaborative Speech Pathologist who is passionate about ensuring every student is known, supported and able to experience success.
The Speech Pathologist will provide specialist expertise in speech, language and communication, working alongside teachers, education support staff, school leaders, families and other allied health professionals to support student learning, participation, engagement and independence.

In 2027, we are no longer beginning from a blank page. We are building on the foundations established during our first year.
