Senior Electrical Engineer, Brisbane
At Grid-Link, we’re all about making the energy transition actually happen, not just talking about it.
We’re a specialist engineering consultancy that specialises in delivering comprehensive solutions for integrating energy assets into the grid. Our sweet spot is combining deep technical expertise in power systems, modelling and compliance with real, hands-on experience in Design, Grid Connection, HV testing, commissioning, and project delivery.
In short, we help get energy projects connected, energised, and moving faster and with less risk.
Our goal is simple: enable a more sustainable, carbon-free energy future.
About the opportunity
We recently opened a Brisbane office and this role sits right at the centre of that expansion. You’ll provide senior technical leadership across grid connections, HV substations, and utility-scale renewable projects, while also helping build client relationships and grow the business in Queensland.
You’ll be involved across the full project lifecycle: concept, detailed design, due diligence, construction support, and commissioning. You bring the engineering depth and the commercial awareness to keep things moving.
Based in Brisbane, with travel to project sites, client offices, and industry conferences as required.
What you’ll be doing
- Deliver electrical engineering services across major renewable and HV substation projects, including calculations, system studies, specifications, drawings, and reports
- Lead electrical and multi-discipline design teams, coordinating across engineering interfaces
- Run and participate in design reviews covering constructability, safety in design, quality, and value engineering
- Manage grid connection processes, project planning, and feasibility studies
- Provide technical support during construction, installation, and commissioning, including FAT and SAT
- Build and maintain client relationships, lead meetings, and act as a trusted technical advisor
- Support business development in Queensland through proposals, client presentations, and business growth strategies
- Review technical documentation for Standards and project compliance
What you’ll bring
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 10+ years in electrical engineering with solid exposure to HV substations and renewables
- Hands-on experience in HV substation systems: equipment specifications, SLDs, protection, control, SCADA, and multi-discipline coordination
- Proficiency with electrical design software such as ETAP, PSCAD or similar for load flow and fault studies
- Knowledge of protection philosophy and schemes for lines, transformers, busbars, reactive plant, and cables
- Strong understanding of Australian Standards and industry standards including IEC, ANSI, and IEEE
- Familiarity with earthing system design and potential rise risk
- Understanding of Network Service Provider connection requirements
- Clear communicator who’s comfortable leading client conversations
Valued:
- Engineers Australia membership, RPEV and/or RPEQ (or working towards it)
- Consulting background with client-facing and business development experience
- Knowledge of major electrical equipment suppliers and procurement processes
Why Grid-Link?
- You’ll work with people who really know their stuff and are happy to share it
- Projects are genuinely interesting, not cookie-cutter
- You’ll get exposure across the full project lifecycle, not just one slice
- A culture that values balance, not burnout
- Support for Engineers Australia membership
- Health and social initiatives
- Brisbane CBD office
- Competitive salary
If you enjoy solving real engineering problems, want to work on projects that matter, and like the idea of helping build something from the ground up in Queensland, this is a pretty good place to do it.
