The Senior Field Technician provides strong in‑field leadership and hands-on technical delivery across discovery projects, coordinating people and resources to ensure safe, efficient, and well‑resourced operations. This role is responsible for supervising, mentoring, and developing field personnel, building technical capability and leadership capacity within the team, while personally delivering core field, sampling, and drilling support activities. The position ensures all work is conducted in compliance with statutory requirements and Benz Mining's Health, Safety and Environmental standards and procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate field crews and resources to meet project schedules and operational priorities, while personally undertaking hands-on sampling and core processing duties as required
- Conduct soil sampling programs to support surface geochemical analysis
- Collect and process RC drilling samples, reporting sample sequences with attention to QAQC
- Collect diamond drilling samples, reporting sample sequences with attention to QAQC
- Collect diamond core from drill rigs for geological analyses
- Process diamond drill core, including core orientation and mark-up of metre intervals for accurate depth logging, magnetic susceptibility testwork, calculation of Rock Quality Designation (RQD), and measurement of Specific Gravity (SG) using the Archimedes principle
- Operate portable XRF analysers for geochemical testing
- Use differential GPS (DGPS) equipment for accurate mark-out of tracks and drill locations, and recording of final collar coordinates
- Demonstrate visible safety leadership and ensure all Field Service Team members adhere to Benz Mining's policies and procedures
- Provide ongoing mentoring, coaching, and practical training to Field Service Technicians across all aspects of Field Services, including sampling, fly camp set-up, and core processing
About you
- At least 5 years' experience in a Field Assistant or Senior Field Assistant role, including hands-on RC, diamond, and/or air core sampling experience
- Current Advanced First Aid
- Current C Class Driver's Licence
- Current HR Class Driver's License (Preferable)
- Operate and maintain 4WD Training (or equivalent)
- Forklift Licence (preferable)
- Good Computer skills (familiarity with Excel and previous experience with a GIS package preferable)
Pay: $110,000.00 – $130,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
