Are you an experienced food retail manager with a genuine passion for quality food?
Good Food Distributors is looking for a capable and experienced Retail Manager to take ownership of our Gourmet Deli and retail shopfront in Salamander Bay.
For over 30 years, Good Food Distributors has built its reputation around quality food, great service and strong relationships with our customers. Our retail store brings together premium meats, smallgoods, cheeses, gourmet foods, fresh and specialty products, wine and more.
We’re looking for someone who understands this type of environment.
Previous management experience within a food-focused business is essential for this position. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in gourmet delis, butchers, specialty food stores, supermarkets, fresh food departments or similar quality food businesses.
About the Role
This is a hands-on management position. You’ll lead from the shop floor while taking responsibility for the day-to-day performance and presentation of the store.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading, supporting and developing the retail team
- Delivering a high standard of customer service
- Managing daily store operations and staff workflow
- Rostering and coordinating the team
- Stock ordering, rotation and inventory control
- Managing fresh and short shelf-life products to minimise waste
- Maintaining high-quality displays and merchandising
- Ensuring food safety, hygiene and cleaning standards are consistently maintained
- Monitoring product quality and presentation
- Helping drive sales and identify opportunities within the store
- Building relationships with our regular and local customers
- Working closely with our wider Good Food Distributors team
Who We're Looking For
This isn't a general retail management position. You need to understand food.
To be successful, you will have:
- Previous management or senior supervisory experience in a food business
- Strong knowledge of fresh food, deli, gourmet or specialty food retail
- Experience managing stock rotation, shelf life and food wastage
- A strong understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements
- Experience leading and motivating a team
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Confidence making decisions and taking ownership of the store
- A hands-on attitude and willingness to jump in wherever needed
- A genuine interest in quality food and providing customers with a great experience
Experience with deli products, premium meats, smallgoods, cheeses and gourmet foods would be particularly valuable.
