Permanent Part‑Time Squad Competition Coach

The role is located at one of Australia’s Premier Aquatic facilities, the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre (SAALC). The role is employed by YMCA Aquatic & Event Services Ltd and working with one of South Australia and Australia’s Top Swimming Clubs, Marion. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Permanent Part‑Time Squad Competition Coach to join our coaching team. This role is suited to a coach who enjoys working with competitive athletes, contributing to performance outcomes, and supporting the continued growth and success of a well‑established swimming program.
About the Role
Working closely with the Head Coach and Program Manager, the Squad Competition Coach will play a key role in delivering high‑quality training to performance‑focused swimmers. The successful applicant will develop and implement training programs aimed at State and National‑level success, contribute to long‑term athlete development, motivate Swim Club membership and uphold a positive, professional pool‑deck environment.
Key Responsibilities

Coach and lead squad‑level training sessions

Identify targeted swim meets and promote attendance throughout the squads with athlete and parent engagement

Drive the competitive swimming environment, from development to senior squad that aim at State and National competition success

Collaborate with the head coach on the planning and periodisation of development and Junior squads

Manage pathways between Junior coaching team to develop high level of service with pathways.

Set expectations of attendance, performance, uniform, culture and contact times.

Attend targeted swim meets and events as required

Assist in planning and implementation of promotional activities for the acquisition of new Club members

Strives to keep all swimmers and fellow team members motivated and part of Swimming program

Communicate professionally with swimmers, parents, club officials, and staff
About You
-
Strong passion for competitive swimming and long‑term athlete development
-
Experience coaching squads and performance‑level swimmers
-
Ability to plan and deliver programs aligned with performance outcomes
-
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-
Professional, reliable, and organised on pool deck
-
Willing to work mornings, afternoons, and some weekends
-
Willingness to take ownership and development of the program
Essential Requirements
-
ASCTA Development Coach accreditation (or equivalent)
-
Current National Police and Working with Children Checks
-
Current First Aid & CPR certification
-
Previous senior or squad competition coaching experience preferred
-
Minimum 1-2 years of senior or squad competition coaching experience
