We are looking for a mechanical design drafter who is early in their career and wants to build it in HVAC.
The employer is an Australian owned mechanical services contractor that designs and builds its own work rather than installing someone else's drawings. You would sit on the ductwork side of the design team. Permanent, full time, western Sydney.
What the job actually is
Revit modelling and design drafting for commercial mechanical services. Ductwork layouts and services coordination, working alongside the engineers and the project managers who then build it.
Because the business designs and constructs, your drawings go to their own installation crews. You find out quickly whether what you drew works on site, and you get told. That is the fastest way to learn this properly and it is the real reason to take the job over a drafting bureau.
What you need
- Revit. This is the one thing that is not negotiable, and you will be asked about it in the first conversation.
- One to four years drafting in mechanical services, HVAC or building services. A cadetship, or a Certificate IV or Diploma in engineering drafting plus real project work, is fine.
- Enough interest in how things get built to ask questions and take correction.
What helps and is not essential
- AutoCAD alongside Revit
- Navisworks or any clash detection exposure
- Any understanding of ductwork or sheet metal, including from the workshop floor
- Cadduct or Autodesk Fabrication
What you get
Up to $90,000 plus superannuation, depending on experience. Permanent and full time. A design team sitting in the same business as the installation crews, which is not how most drafting jobs are set up.
How to apply
Send your CV. If you can, add two or three sample drawings or a portfolio page. If sharing drawings is not something you are able to do, say so and tell me what you have modelled instead, because that answers the same question.
