Are you a passionate chef looking for an exciting opportunity to be part of a new authentic Mexican restaurant in Newcastle?
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Chef to join the team at Chechos, a contemporary Mexican bar & restaurant dedicated to bold flavours, traditional dishes and a high-quality dining experience.
Previous Mexican cuisine experience is not required. The successful candidate will receive full training at another Chechos branch in Sydney prior to the Newcastle opening, learning our recipes, cooking methods, kitchen systems and standards.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about food, eager to learn and capable of taking responsibility for the smooth operation of the kitchen.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook Mexican dishes including tacos, starters, steaks and more.
- Learn and consistently follow Checho's recipes, cooking techniques and presentation standards.
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation and organisation of the kitchen.
- Coordinate kitchen preparation and service.
- Maintain high standards of food quality, consistency and presentation.
- Assist with menu development and seasonal dishes.
- Manage food preparation, stock levels, ordering and inventory.
- Maintain strict food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards.
- Train and support other kitchen team members.
- Ensure the kitchen operates efficiently during busy service periods.
- Work closely with management to maintain high standards across the restaurant.
Requirements:
- No previous Mexican cuisine experience required – full training will be provided.
- Previous commercial kitchen experience is preferred but not essential.
- Passion for cooking and willingness to learn authentic Mexican cuisine.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to take responsibility and work independently when required.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality.
- Leadership potential and willingness to take responsibility for the kitchen.
- Food Safety certification is preferred but not essential.
- Australian work rights are required.
Training & Development:
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to train at an existing Checho's location in Sydney before the Newcastle restaurant opens.
Training will cover:
- Contemporary Mexican recipes and cooking techniques.
- Checho's menu and preparation methods.
- Kitchen systems and procedures.
- Food safety and hygiene standards.
- Stock control and kitchen organisation.
- Service standards and kitchen workflow.
- Team leadership and day-to-day kitchen management.
