About the role
We have three 12-month fixed-term Project Engineer – Operational Control Systems (OCS) opportunities available within the Asset Management & Performance group. In this role, you'll support the delivery of OCS projects through project engineering, technical coordination, stakeholder engagement and engineering assurance activities that contribute to the safe and reliable operation of Victoria's rail network.
Working across project delivery, engineering and operational teams, you'll help coordinate contractors, vendors and stakeholders, support technical reviews and contribute to project outcomes that meet safety, quality and governance requirements.
Key accountabilities include:
Support the delivery of OCS projects from planning through to completion.
Understand the project lifecycle and the sequence of project activities.
Demonstrates a basic understanding of project commercial principles.
Prepare RFQs and support tender evaluation and project award activities.
Coordinate contractors, vendors and internal stakeholders.
Develop engineering specifications, quality and assurance documentation.
Has strong OCS technical knowledge to identify design issues or anomalies.
Support engineering investigations, analysis and solution development.
Ensure compliance with engineering standards, governance and assurance requirements.
Contribute to engineering change, approvals and project documentation.
Participate in the development of maintenance, construction and operational standards.
Provide accurate project reporting and project coordination support.
About you
You're a technically capable Project Engineer who enjoys working with a diverse range of stakeholders to deliver practical outcomes. You bring strong project delivery skills, a collaborative approach and the ability to navigate complex, highly regulated environments while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
Experience as a Project Engineer or in a similar project delivery role.
Experience delivering infrastructure, rail, electrical, telecommunications or network projects.
Strong understanding of project delivery and engineering governance processes.
Understanding of assurance and change management requirements, including engineering reviews and approvals.
Develop and maintain project documentation, including reports, plans, and technical correspondence, ensuring technical accuracy and consistency.
Technical knowledge of network infrastructure and rail systems.
Strong understanding of data networking technologies, including routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and network security across multi-vendor environments.
Knowledge of OCS and CCM, or the capability to quickly develop this expertise.
Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and vendor management skills.
The ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate documentation and reporting.
A collaborative, proactive and adaptable approach to work.
Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Computer Science or a related discipline.
Desirable
Rail industry experience, particularly within OCS, signalling, telecommunications, Data networks and Cyber security disciplines.
Knowledge of Victorian rail operations.
CCNA.
White Card and/or rail safety accreditation.
