Legacy BJJ Corrimal runs a full weekly program out of its Princes Highway site, currently around 35 classes a week across GI, NoGi, Fundamentals, Advanced, Kids (under 5’s, 5-9 and 10-14), Adults, Women's GI, Masters (over 40s), sparring, breathwork and open mats, and sits within the wider Legacy BJJ network alongside the other seven academies nationwide. Since opening, Corrimal's membership has grown across all age groups and positively impacted the community, and the day-to-day coaching load is carried by Head Coach Mario Lima and the academy's coaching team.
The role is required for increasing participation in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, developing students' sporting skills, supporting junior and adult progression pathways, coordinating competition preparation, and assisting in the development and delivery of the academy's participation-based initiatives. These initiatives focus on building confidence, resilience, healthy habits such as nutrition and sleep, and promoting the core values of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, including respect, discipline, humility and integrity.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and continually refine the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu curriculum for adult and junior members (Kids 5–9 and Kids 10–14), including progression pathways, skill development and grading milestones in consultation with the coaching team.
- Design the structure, entry criteria and scheduling model for the Fundamentals onboarding program for new members including working with the Coaches on scheduling and readiness benchmarks for progression into all-levels classes.
- Design junior participation and competition-development pathways, including mapping how younger students move from the kids’ programs toward competitive opportunities.
- Review class participation and retention data with the Coaches on a monthly basis to identify where progression pathways or program structure may need adjustment.
- Assist academy management with the competition program administration (internal and external where required), event planning and participant coordination.
- Develop participation initiatives through anti-bullying program that build confidence, discipline, resilience and positive sporting behaviours through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu including developing program content and partnerships ahead of rollout in the wider local community.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of school holiday Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programs and contribute to future program development.
- Work with Legacy BJJ to develop future partnerships and participation programs with local schools and the wider community.
- Coordinate with Legacy BJJ broader network academies on shared development initiatives, joint competition squads, and cross-site participation campaigns.
- Support onboarding of new coaching and front-of-house staff into academy systems and member-facing processes, in consultation with management.
- Personally coach a limited number of classes each week, and conduct private lessons for senior students, to maintain the technical credibility the role's coaching standards are mentored against.
- Personally coach and corner a limited number of students at external competitions once they have been selected and entered through the academy's competition program.
Required Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- At least Diploma or Advance Diploma in Physical Education or Sports Management
- Working knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu grading structures, competition formats and entry requirements, sufficient to administer competition logistics and liaise credibly with coaches, competition organisers and governing bodies.
- Current Working with Children Check, and any first aid/CPR certification required for the role.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, assistant coaches, academy management, schools and community stakeholders.
- Good organisational skills, including class planning, program scheduling and event coordination.
Pay: $79,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
