The Royal Australian Mint is a small government agency working within the Commonwealth Government Portfolio of the Treasury. About the Role
The Royal Australian Mint’s Legal Services Section is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Legal Research Officer/ Paralegal to assist with a diverse range of legal matters including commercial law, employment law, contract and procurement support, privacy and freedom of information.
The Legal Research Officer/ Paralegal will contribute to technical excellence through research, analysis and knowledge sharing to support the delivery of high-quality advice to internal and external stakeholders. Drafting includes high-quality documents such as briefs, instruments, agreements, delegations, policies and correspondence.
In addition, the Legal Research Officer/ Paralegal plays a key role in delivering administrative and business support services within a busy and dynamic team. Working under limited direction, the position is responsible for managing administrative activities, maintaining accurate records and reporting systems, supporting financial and procurement processes, and contributing to informed decision-making through research and analysis.
The role requires sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures and legislative frameworks while providing high-quality support to achieve organisational outcomes.
The Duties
The duties of this position include:
1. Undertaking research relating to a wide range of matters including commercial, employment, privacy and information law.
2. Providing accurate, well-written and timely information and recommendations on the basis of this research.
3. Liaising with external agencies and stakeholders.
4. Drafting papers, reports and documents for internal stakeholders, the Board, executive and external parties. Critically evaluating data and ensuring that recommendations are supported by evidence.
5. Editing and formatting documents in line with the Australian Government style guide.
6. Supporting financial and procurement processes.
7. Carrying out administrative tasks, such as managing inboxes and drafting operating procedures.
8. Supporting the General Counsel and Senior Lawyer.
Security
This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtainand maintain a clerarance at this level.
