Purpose of the position:
The Fitter (General) position is required to support Track-Co's manufacturing operations by fitting, assembling, checking, maintaining and repairing metal parts, mechanical components, curtain track assemblies, brackets and related production equipment used in the manufacture of curtain hardware. The position supports the employer's ability to meet customer orders, maintain product quality and keep workshop equipment operating safely and efficiently.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Study drawings, specifications, job sheets and verbal instructions to determine materials, measurements, sequence of work, machine settings and fitting requirements.
- Measure, mark out, cut, drill, grind, sand and finish metal components used in curtain tracks, brackets, hardware assemblies and related products.
- Fit fabricated metal parts into products and assemble metal parts and subassemblies using hand tools, power tools, fasteners, screws, bolts and rivets.
- Check fabricated and assembled components for accuracy, alignment, clearance, fit, appearance and quality using appropriate measuring tools and inspection methods.
- Set up and operate workshop equipment including drilling, cutting, grinding, sanding and finishing tools in accordance with safe operating procedures.
- Diagnose minor faults in workshop machinery, tools and mechanical components and assist with maintenance, adjustment and repair work to minimise production downtime.
- Perform routine maintenance of hand tools, power tools, machinery and work areas to ensure equipment remains safe, clean and serviceable.
- Inspect finished curtain track assemblies and hardware to ensure they meet Track-Co quality standards and customer specifications before dispatch or installation.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures, wear required PPE, maintain clean work areas and report hazards, incidents or equipment faults promptly.
- Work cooperatively with supervisors, fabricators and other team members to meet production schedules and improve workshop efficiency.
Required Skills & Competencies:
Essential:
- Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (MEM31922) or an equivalent trade qualification relevant to mechanical fitting or metal assembly; or relevant trade experience accepted under ANZSCO skill level requirements.
- Minimum of one (1) year of hands-on experience in a fitting, mechanical assembly, or related metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience operating hand tools, power tools, drills, cutting machinery and grinding equipment.
- Ability to accurately measure, mark and work with metal components.
- Ability to study and follow drawings, job sheets, specifications and work instructions.
- Ability to check component fit, alignment and quality against specifications.
- Practical problem-solving skills for minor equipment faults and production issues.
- Knowledge of and commitment to WHS requirements, safe manual handling, and safe operation of tools and machinery.
- Physical fitness for hands-on workshop and factory duties.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability and ability to work in a small team environment.
Desirable:
- Experience in the curtain hardware, window furnishings or aluminium extrusion industry.
- Familiarity with interpreting engineering drawings or technical specifications.
- Experience with riveting, bracket assembly or aluminium track fabrication.
- Ability to undertake practical workshop duties, including standing for extended periods and safely handling metal components.
- Ability to work in a factory environment and use required PPE at all times.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members in English.
Qualifications and experience requirements:
A minimum of one (1) year of relevant hands-on experience in fitting, assembly, metal component preparation, curtain track manufacturing, workshop operations or a closely related manufacturing environment is required.
The following qualifications are relevant to this position:
- AQF Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (MEM31922)
- AQF Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade
- Or equivalent trade qualification relevant to mechanical fitting, metal fitting or workshop assembly
Salary - $77,000 - $82,000 Plus super
