About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join Legends, one of MVRC's hospitality and entertainment venues located on the corner of Wilson Street and Thomas Street in Moonee Ponds. Known for its excellent city views, relaxed atmosphere and quality food offering, Legends continues to evolve as a leading hospitality destination in Melbourne's north-west.
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Sous Chef to support the leadership of the kitchen team and drive a high-quality, consistent and commercially successful culinary operation. Working closely with the Head Chef, the Sous Chef plays a key leadership role in delivering exceptional food experiences, maintaining operational standards and developing a high-performing kitchen team.

Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to the following:
- Support the Head Chef in managing the day-to-day kitchen operations at Legends.
- Deliver a culinary offering that consistently exceeds guest expectations.
- Lead service periods ensuring quality, consistency and presentation standards are maintained.
- Assist with seasonal menu development aligned to the Legends dining experience.
- Roster kitchen staff to meet operational needs while achieving labour targets.
- Manage stock control, ordering and inventory to support efficient operations.
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety Programs, WHS standards and kitchen procedures.
- Monitor food costs, waste management and kitchen expenses to achieve financial targets.
- Support delivery of functions, promotions and special events.
- Provide strong leadership, mentoring and development of chefs, apprentices and kitchen staff.
- Foster a positive, collaborative and high-performance kitchen culture.
About You
To effectively perform in the role, the successful candidate must possess the following skills, experience and qualifications:
- Trade qualification in Commercial Cookery.
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef or senior Chef de Partie in a high-volume hospitality environment.
- Strong operational and commercial awareness with experience managing food costs and labour.
- A hands-on leadership style with the ability to lead from the front during service.
- Excellent organisation, planning and time-management skills.
- A passion for delivering quality food and exceptional guest experiences.
- Experience leading, mentoring and developing kitchen teams.
- A modern and creative approach to menu execution and presentation.
- Food Safety Supervisor certification and Food Allergen knowledge.
