Transport Manager
A newly created role at Wagners Concrete requires an experienced manager of transport operations to take responsibility for the strategic and operational management of our heavy vehicle fleet across southeast Queensland.
This multi-faceted position is accountable for maximising fleet utilisation, contractor productivity, customer service outcomes and transport profitability. Adhering to legislative and company compliance requirements whilst ensuring the Concrete fleet operates to the highest safety standards is essential.
A vehicle is provided for regular travel to meet with production managers at our concrete sites located from the Sunshine Coast south to the Gold Coast and west to Toowoomba is part of this challenging, but highly rewarding new role.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet performance, utilisation & presentation – identify opportunities to increase productive hours, implement initiatives to improve fleet efficiency, and manage the overall fleet appearance including branding.
Transport planning and scheduling – develop daily transport plans, optimise truck dispatch to maximise load efficiency, manage peak demand planning and coordinate plant shutdowns and fleet redistribution.
Operational analytics – analyse transport performance data, produce regular KPI reports for transport performance and fleet availability, monitor fleet availability and report capacity risks.
Fleet downtime management – monitor and identify root causes of contractor downtime and mechanical downtime across transport assets, and coordinate maintenance scheduling.
Cost management – manage transport costs and fuel efficiency and identify cost reduction opportunities, review maintenance spend and ensure value is delivered from contractor fleet arrangements, and manage transport budgets.
Customer delivery performance – improve on-time delivery and reduce customer delays, elevate communication between dispatches, plants and customers, and resolve major customer transport issues.
Critical to your success in this role:
Demonstrated experience managing transport operations (ideally 5+ years)
Proven experience managing large heavy vehicle fleets
Previous leadership of multi-site operations and experience managing transport contractors
Extensive fleet scheduling experience
Knowledge of NHVR legislation and familiarity working within its framework
Strong commercial and financial acumen and experience managing a budget
Advanced analytical skills and experience interpreting transport performance data
Strong customer service focus with the ability to manage stakeholder relationships
High level problem-solving, planning and organisational skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead effectively, and work productively with internal teams
Relevant qualifications and evidence of formal training would be advantageous, but only viewed as additional to essential real world experience across the key responsibilities of this role.
