K-SEIN Fromagerie – South Melbourne Market
K-SEIN Fromagerie is looking for a friendly, reliable and motivated casual retail assistant to join our small team at South Melbourne Market.
Established in 2022, K-SEIN Fromagerie is an independent specialist cheese shop offering a wide selection of French, Swiss, Italian and Australian cheeses.
We are looking for someone who enjoys customer service, working with food and learning about cheese.
Previous cheese knowledge is welcome but not essential, as full training will be provided. However, you must genuinely enjoy eating cheese, be comfortable tasting all types of cheese and be open to learning about different styles, flavours and producers.
Our shop is open four days per week: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Weekend availability is essential. Availability during December and in the lead-up to Christmas is also required.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Welcome customers and provide friendly, personalised service
- Learn about our cheese selection and confidently make recommendations
- Taste and learn about different styles of cheese
- Cut, weigh, wrap and label cheese correctly
- Assist customers with cheese selections, quantities and accompaniments
- Maintain high standards of cheese care, presentation and stock rotation
- Restock the display and prepare products for service
- Process customer payments accurately
- Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace procedures
- Keep the shop, counters, equipment and work areas clean and organised
- Regularly wash and sanitise knives, trays, cutting boards, utensils and other equipment
- Complete cleaning duties throughout the shift, not only at closing time
- Use antibacterial hand gel after handling the till and before returning to food service
- Work efficiently during busy market periods
- Help create customer loyalty through knowledgeable and sincere service
Cleaning and Hygiene Requirements
Cleaning and washing are a significant part of this role.
Throughout each shift, staff are required to regularly wash knives, trays, cutting boards, utensils and other equipment. Frequent handwashing and the regular use of antibacterial hand gel are also required.
Because the role involves repeated contact with water, soap, sanitising products and antibacterial gel, it may not be suitable for someone with very sensitive skin, recurring hand irritation or difficulty using standard cleaning products.

- Good communication skills and proficiency in English
- Basic maths and cash-handling skills
- Physically able to stand for extended periods, lift products and complete regular cleaning duties
- Retail, hospitality, deli or food-service experience is helpful but not essential
This is a casual position. Initial shifts will depend on availability and business needs, with the opportunity for more regular hours for the right candidate based on reliability, performance and progress in the role.
