The Saturday Paper is looking for an experienced and highly capable Sub-Editor to join The Saturday Paper team on a part-time basis, working 10 hours per week.
This is an opportunity for an experienced editor who has a strong eye for detail, excellent editorial judgement and a passion for producing high-quality independent journalism.
The Saturday Paper does not condone the use of AI in the production of its journalism.
About the role
Working closely with the Managing Editor, Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team, you will play an important role in ensuring our editorial content is accurate, engaging, polished and independent.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality sub-editing across print and online content
- Conducting thorough fact checking, including names, dates, quotations, statistics and factual claims
- Ensuring content meets Schwartz Media’s editorial standards and style
- Working collaboratively with writers, contributors, and other members of the editorial team
- Undertaking other editorial tasks as directed by the Managing Editor or Editor-in-Chief
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Has demonstrated extensive experience as a sub-editor or copy editor, preferably in journalism or publishing
- Has exceptional attention to detail and a strong command of grammar, spelling and punctuation
- Has excellent fact-checking skills and editorial judgement
- Can identify structural and narrative issues and suggest practical improvements
- Is comfortable working to deadlines in a fast-paced editorial environment
- Understands the importance of accuracy, consistency and maintaining a writer's voice
- Is collaborative, reliable and able to work independently
Location : Collingwood, Vic / remote work is possible
Days : 10 hours per week across Wednesdays and Thursdays
