Travel throughout Australia on a 2-weeks on, 2-weeks off, lifestyle roster. As a Remote Communications Technician, your role will focus on providing remote communications support to our remote Oil and Gas sites as well as the wider Ventia business. The point of hire is Toowoomba (you will fly or drive to site from Toowoomba). This opportunity is for a 6-month period with the potential to extend.
You will report into the Remote Communications Superintendent and work collaboratively with other Remote Communications Technicians as well as a Network & Infrastructure Superintendent. As a team you will maintain/ upgrade existing field communications infrastructure, provide maintenance and support to existing VSAT, LEO, 4G, fibre, and network equipment, as well as assist in the effective set up of new infrastructure. You will also work with external vendors to support all staff and clients across Ventia for a diverse range of network, systems, and application needs.
Although this role is predominantly focused on the Rigs and Well Services contract, there will be the opportunity to work on interesting projects outside of the normal scope. In this job role there is also the potential to work offshore. One of the projects the remote communications team supported was The Japan Aerospace Exploration Space Agency’s (JAXA) Hayabusa2 mission. The team provided the network systems in remote locations in Woomera, South Australia for the first ever sub-surface asteroid samples to be returned to Earth.
About you
You will have proven success in a similar role, experience working in remote locations and sometimes harsh environments, ability to design, mend, implement and maintain remote communications equipment (VSAT, Radio, MATV and network infrastructure). You will have a positive, can-do attitude, remain calm in stressful situations, and use your initiative to be proactive and resolve issues. To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Structured, coaxial and fibre cabling certification
- Valid Australian Driver’s License
- Experience working with satellite networks & equipment
- Familiar with MATV systems
- Proficient using hand and power tools
- An awareness of IT infrastructure, such as network switching
