Finance Manager
About DarkLab
DarkLab is the creative agency within the Mona Group, producing some of Australia’s most distinctive arts and cultural experiences. Based in central Hobart, DarkLab operates a portfolio of live music venues including The Odeon Theatre, Altar Bar, and In The Hanging Garden, alongside the acclaimed Dark Mofo festival.
About the Role
The Finance Manager sits at the intersection of creative ambition and financial discipline, providing the commercial rigour that enables DarkLab’s work. This is a genuinely complex multi-entity finance role requiring someone who is as comfortable building a Power BI dashboard as they are presenting a board paper.
As Finance Manager, you will own the financial operations of DarkLab and its related entities, with dotted line leadership of a small team and partnering closely with the executive and creative leadership. You will be the primary custodian of financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and data infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on developing real-time dashboards and analytical tools that drive decision-making across the business.
This role suits an experienced finance professional with multi-entity management accounting experience, strong data skills, and the personal maturity to operate effectively across a creative, fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities will include:
-
Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
-
Prepare and present monthly management accounts to the leadership and management
-
Lead the annual budgeting cycle across all business segments, working closely with operational leaders
Serve as the primary financial partner for Dark Mofo, including P&L management, grant compliance, and risk reporting
Lead, mentor, and develop a small, shared finance team (AP, AR, Finance Officer)
-
Participate as a member of the DarkLab Executive Leadership Team, contributing to broader organisational planning
About You
-
Previous senior management accounting experience, ideally across multi-entity or group structures
-
CA or CPA qualified
-
Demonstrated experience building and maintaining Power BI dashboards (not just consuming them)
Experience working across multiple financial systems and data sources
-
Some experience coaching and mentoring others and an interest in doing this as part of your role
-
Intellectually curious - you enjoy understanding how things work, not just reporting the numbers
Any experience (and a personal interest) in festival, events, hospitality, or arts sectors will be highly regarded
Why Join Us
Work on genuinely complex, varied finance problems across events, venues, hospitality, and grant-funded programs
Collaborate with passionate, talented people in a creative and fast-moving environment
-
Genuine scope to build and own financial infrastructure rather than inherit a fixed system
-
Central Hobart location
