As a Cook at PRAISEPSALM PTY LTD T/A EMBERS GRILL & BURGER, you will be an important part of our kitchen team, supporting the preparation and cooking of quality meals in a busy restaurant environment. You will assist in preparing dishes according to the menu, maintaining food quality and presentation standards, and ensuring that all food is prepared safely, efficiently, and consistently.

Task & Responsibilities
Food Quality and Preparation
● Examine foodstuffs, ingredients, and raw materials to ensure they meet the required standards of freshness, quality, hygiene, and suitability before preparation and cooking.
● Check meat, poultry, seafood, vegetables, sauces, dry goods, and other supplies to ensure they are safe for use and consistent with the restaurant’s quality expectations.
● Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, trimming, marinating, portioning, mixing, and organising food items required for daily service.
● Prepare and cook meals according to the restaurant’s menu, recipes, customer orders, and required food preparation standards.
Cooking and Kitchen Equipment
● Regulate and monitor temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers, stoves, and other cooking equipment to ensure food is cooked safely and evenly.
● Use appropriate cooking methods such as grilling, frying, roasting, baking, steaming, boiling, and sautéing to prepare menu items.
● Monitor cooking times and adjust heat levels where required to ensure meals are prepared consistently and to the required standard.
● Ensure kitchen equipment is used safely, cleaned properly, and reported for maintenance where necessary.
Seasoning, Portioning and Presentation
● Season food during the cooking process using herbs, spices, sauces, marinades, and other flavouring ingredients to maintain taste and consistency.
● Portion food accurately according to menu standards, customer orders, and restaurant requirements.
● Place cooked food on plates and add gravies, sauces, dressings, garnishes, and accompaniments before service.
● Ensure all meals are presented neatly and consistently in line with the restaurant’s presentation standards.
Food Safety and Storage
● Store food and ingredients in temperature-controlled facilities such as cool rooms, refrigerators, freezers, and hot holding areas.
● Follow food safety procedures, including correct labelling, dating, stock rotation, storage, and prevention of cross-contamination.
● Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in food preparation areas, cooking stations, storage areas, and equipment.
● Comply with workplace health and safety requirements and food safety regulations at all times.
Special Dietary Requirements
● Prepare food to meet special dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergy-sensitive, and other customer-specific requests.
● Follow instructions carefully when preparing special dietary meals to ensure accuracy and customer safety.
● Take reasonable steps to avoid cross-contamination when preparing allergy-sensitive or special dietary dishes.
Menu Support and Stock Control
● Assist with planning menu items and estimating food requirements based on customer demand, seasonal availability, stock levels, and business needs.
● Support stock control by monitoring ingredient usage, reporting low stock levels, and assisting with reducing food wastage.
● Contribute practical ideas to improve food preparation, kitchen efficiency, and menu consistency.
Team Support and Training
● Work cooperatively with chefs, kitchen staff, kitchen hands, and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
● Assist in training and guiding junior kitchen staff, kitchen hands, and apprentices in food preparation, cooking techniques, hygiene practices, and workplace procedures.
● Support a positive team environment by maintaining clear communication during busy service periods.
Qualification & Experience
Qualifications Required
● Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, Diploma of Hospitality Management, or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
Work Experience Required
● Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a Cook or in a similar commercial kitchen role.
● Experience in a busy restaurant, grill, burger, café, or modern Australian dining environment is highly desirable.
● Ability to prepare and cook food consistently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
● Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, portion control, and kitchen procedures.
● Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions from senior kitchen staff.
