Your New Role
This is a unique and highly influential role where you'll shape Aware Super's engagement with trade unions, peak employer groups, government stakeholders and industry partners.
As the Senior Manager, Union Relations, you'll provide strategic leadership on industrial relations, advocacy and policy issues that impact our members and the broader community. You'll be the trusted advisor connecting Aware Super's Executive team with senior union and industry leaders, helping to influence policy outcomes and strengthen partnerships that deliver value for members.
Reporting to the General Manager, Growth and Partnerships, you'll operate at the intersection of policy, stakeholder engagement, advocacy and commercial partnerships, representing Aware Super in key external forums and driving meaningful outcomes for the fund and its members.
In this role you will:
- Lead Aware Super’s union and industry engagement strategy, shaping advocacy priorities and influencing policy outcomes that support members.
- Build and maintain senior stakeholder relationships across trade unions, employer groups, industry bodies and government-related networks.
- Provide strategic advice and insights on industrial relations, political developments, legislation and emerging policy issues.
- Negotiate and manage strategic partnerships with unions and employer groups to maximise commercial value and member outcomes.
- Prepare high-quality executive communications, including briefings, reports, submissions, position papers and Board recommendations.
- Represent Aware Super externally, acting as a trusted voice in industry forums, stakeholder engagements and advocacy initiatives.
How do you exceed our expectations? You'll bring:
- Significant experience in industrial relations, policy development, advocacy or stakeholder engagement.
- Strong understanding of Australia's industrial relations landscape and policy environment.
- Exceptional relationship management skills, with experience engaging senior stakeholders and executives.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills, including the ability to simplify complex issues and influence decision-makers.
- Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking capabilities.
- Experience developing insights, conducting research and shaping policy positions.
- A proven ability to navigate competing priorities and deliver outcomes through influence rather than authority.
Confidence presenting and engaging at Executive, Board and external leadership levels.
