Primary objective
As a Senior Industries Officer, assist with the development of Prisoners in a modern, progressive and efficient industry,
assisting with the day-to-day operations within a custodial institution that meets industry standards for prisoners enrolled
in Vocational Education and Training (VET) that provides real employment, development opportunities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in the operation of a custodial institution, with respect to the supervision, control and training of prisoners
engaged in industrial and other related activities.
2. Supervise and provide leadership to subordinate staff directly involved in industrial activities.
3. Ensure efficient and effective utilisation of institutional resources and maintain prison records.
4. Produce concise, accurate and timely reports to management as required.
5. Ensure Equal Opportunity, Anti-Discrimination and Occupational Health and Safety principles and standards are
promoted and supported.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Certificate III Construction/Boilermaker/Sheet Metal/Engineering/Carpentry/Cabinetmaker (refer to the NTCS
Industries Officer Qualification Guide) Certificate III in Correctional Practice and Certificate IV in Training and
Assessment or ability to successfully complete within 12 months.
2. Experience in or considerable knowledge of prison operations and have considerable experience in all aspects of building
maintenance industry.
3. Proven management and organisational ability, including successful team leadership with the ability to supervise,
motivate and train prisoners.
4. Proven commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Anti-Discrimination and Work Health and Safety

5. A demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures and an understanding of special needs to
Aboriginal and other ethnic prisoners.
6. Current NT drivers Licence.
Desirable
1. Comprehensive knowledge of legislation relevant to Correctional Services.
