About the Team
Cancer Council SA has an outstanding reputation for funding and delivering critical cancer research, prevention and support programs as well as a track record of successful advocacy. Its purpose of reducing the rate and impact of cancer is progressed through supporting people impacted by cancer today and bold leadership into the future.
The Mission Unit delivers sustainable, evidence-based supportive care services that promote optimal care and are accessible to all South Australians. It develops cancer prevention and education programs that reach deep into the community, and partners with First Nations communities to improve cancer outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The unit also undertakes and funds high-quality research spanning the continuum from biomedical and translational to population health.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced First Nations Cancer Educator to lead the development and delivery of culturally appropriate cancer education and training programs across South Australia.
Working closely with the First Nations Program Manager, you will engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, leaders and organisations to increase cancer awareness, reduce stigma, support treatment participation, and strengthen local community capacity.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Develop and deliver culturally responsive cancer education and training programs using adult learning principles.
Facilitate community workshops and training sessions across priority regions.
Build strong relationships with First Nations communities, leaders and stakeholders.
Implement engagement strategies to increase participation and community impact.
Support and upskill local First Nations people to provide ongoing community support.
Develop training resources and maintain accurate training, attendance and evaluation records.
Monitor and evaluate program quality, effectiveness and cultural integrity.
Contribute to continuous quality improvement and organisational objectives.
Skills and Experiences:
You are a strong communicator and relationship builder with a genuine commitment to improving First Nations health outcomes.
You will bring:
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (essential).
Qualifications in health promotion, public health, a health-related discipline, or equivalent experience (desirable).
Experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and communities.
Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships and engage stakeholders effectively.
Strong facilitation, project coordination and evaluation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital systems.
The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
The role is a new position, made possible through a 12-month funding agreement with Country South Australia Primary Health Network. It is being offered as a 12-month full time, fixed term position.
