About the Business Unit:
The Assurance branch within DPG supports delivering the department's overarching governance and assurance framework, translating risk exposure, perform..ance and compliance data into meaningful oversight to support inform..ed decision-making. It brings together evidence and insights across risk, audit, resilience, FOI, secretariat support and broader governance functions to strengthen accountability and drive continuous improvement.
About the Role:
The Senior Advisor, Risk provides leadership in the development and practical application of the department's risk management framework and program. The role delivers high‑quality risk a dvice, leads initiatives to uplift risk capability, and supports the consistent application of risk policies, tools, and practices across the department. It works closely with business areas and governance forums to ensure risk inform..ation is clear, relevant, and embedded in decision‑making, contributing to effective risk mitigation and organisational resilience.
Some of your duties will include:

Coordinate and advise across business units to promote consistent risk management practices, reduce operational exposure, and ensure alignment with legislative, policy and governance requirement

Support delivery and continuous improvement of the department's risk program, including oversight of risk registers and systems, and application of frameworks, policies, training and tools to ensure risk inform..ation is accurate and fit for purpose.

Design and deliver risk capability initiatives including workshops, training and priority projects, to uplift organisational risk maturity and strengthen risk culture.

About You:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

Operational risk application: Demonstrated operational experience in applying and embedding risk management in complex environments, including identifying, assessing and mitigating risks, and integrating practical mitigations into business-as-usual activities.

Application of frameworks and standards: Proven ability to develop and apply risk frameworks, standards and better practice in a pragmatic, context‑appropriate way that supports sustainable risk practices.

Interpreting risk in practice: Demonstrated ability to interpret risk standards, policies and guidance, and practical experience in adapting them to real-world operational environments to support effective implementation and risk mitigation.
