THE POSITION:
Reporting to the Director City Strategy, the Manager Economic Development provides strategic leadership of Council's economic development function and acts as Council's lead advisor on economic matters. This pivotal role is responsible for implementing the Fairfield City Economic Development Strategy and driving initiatives that support economic growth, investment attraction, local employment opportunities, business development, visitor economy outcomes and long-term economic resilience across Fairfield City.
The position leads the delivery of strategic economic development projects and programs, develops advocacy initiatives and business cases, secures external funding and investment opportunities, and builds high-value partnerships with government agencies, industry groups, investors, educational institutions and local businesses. The Manager Economic Development also provides strategic advice to the Executive Leadership Team, Mayor and Councillors, identifies opportunities arising from major Western Sydney developments including the Western Sydney International Airport and Aerotropolis, and leads a small team to deliver impactful economic outcomes for the community. The role represents Council at regional, metropolitan and industry forums and plays a critical role in shaping Fairfield's economic future.
ABOUT YOU:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Tertiary qualifications in Economics or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in economic development, preferably within local government.
- Strong understanding of metropolitan economic trends, industry development, visitor economy opportunities and economic transition opportunities relevant to Western Sydney.
- Demonstrated success delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
- Experience developing strategic partnerships and working collaboratively with government agencies, investors and industry stakeholders.
- Strong advocacy, business case development and funding acquisition experience.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams, resources and organisational outcomes.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Highly developed communication, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes and communicate complex concepts in accessible language.
- Experience securing grants, sponsorships and external funding opportunities.
- High level political acumen and ability to operate effectively in a complex stakeholder environment.
- Current NSW Class C Driver Licence.
SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Permanent full-time position, working 70 hours per fortnight
- This position is a Grade 10, with a salary range of $143,518 p.a. with progression to $154,554 p.a. on demonstrated competencies, and performance progression up to $168,114 p.a., plus superannuation
