Purpose of the Position
The position will provide specialised clinical service, support and advice to Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) services throughout Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD), specifically in the areas of sexual assault (adult, adolescent and child) and domestic and family violence.
The position of Adult Clinical Lead - PARVAN is a part of a multidisciplinary team and its role is to ensure the delivery of high quality medical and forensic services to patients presenting with concerns of sexual assault and domestic and family violence, including children, adolescents and adults. The position will provide clinical and consultative services including integrated medical forensic and psychosocial assessments and medical treatment, within their scope of practice, both in and out of hours. The position will also contribute to the teaching, training and supervision of medical and nursing staff within the NSLHD PARVAN Medical Forensic Team. The position will contribute to the teaching and training of staff in the clinical areas encompassed within PARVAN services and provide a consultative and leadership role to NSLHD staff in the area of VAN relating to adults and adolescents. The position will further develop research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District to ensure the provision of integrated, holistic and patient focussed PARVAN services.
This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.
Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of a recognised Australasian Specialist College or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants who do not hold Fellowship may be considered for appointment at an alternative classification, subject to holding the qualifications, skills, and experience appropriate to the role.

- Demonstrated experience in clinical forensic medicine work for adolescents aged 14 years and older and adults suitable for this position at a specialist level. Existing demonstrated experience in the provision of medical and forensic assessments for children aged 13 years or younger is an advantage. However, if such experience is not already held, a willingness provide paediatric services is essential and a commitment to undergo training to provide paediatric services is required.
- Demonstrated high level knowledge and expertise in the areas of sexual assault and domestic and family violence including recognised appropriate medical forensic skills/ training in sexual assault and abuse.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and demonstrated research experience and program evaluation.
- Preparedness to support and participate in a 24/7 on-call service including on-call rosters already existing or subsequently established, if requested and credentialed.
- Commitment to participate in peer review, quality improvement programs and change management to ensure excellence.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills with an ability to consult, influence, negotiate and maintain positive relationships with the community, clinicians, management, staff and senior executives within NSLHD, interagency partners and other stake holders.
