At Unita, we build spaces where people love to work, shop, stay and connect – from high-end retail and hospitality, to health and commercial fitouts across Australia. But great spaces don’t build themselves. Great teams do.
People have always been at the heart of what we do. From humble beginnings to national growth, our ambition has never outweighed our values. We’re fuelled by a shared passion to build better, together.
We’re looking for a Senior Finance Business Partner to turn financial performance into clear commercial insight and help our leaders make better decisions.
This is a senior, hands-on role working closely with our CFO and business leaders across a growing national business. You’ll bring clarity to performance, challenge assumptions and help close the gap between the numbers and the decisions.
The role
As Senior Finance Business Partner, you'll amplify the commercial impact of the Finance function — working alongside key decision makers to close the gap between the numbers and the decisions.
You'll bring financial clarity and commercial challenge to the conversations that drive performance, turning complex financial information into clear, practical advice that people act on.
You'll own the key planning, forecasting, and reporting rhythms across the group, while digging beneath the headline numbers to understand what's really driving performance at business unit and project level.
This isn't a role for someone who wants to report the numbers and move on. You'll be expected to form a view, make recommendations, and constructively challenge the business when the numbers don't support the plan.
What you’ll be responsible for
-
Leading the annual budget and monthly reforecast process across the group and business units, maintaining a credible full-year view with clear variance analysis at both group and BU level.
- Analysing business unit and project-level performance to identify margin trends, risks, and outliers — and producing monthly management reporting that explains what happened, why it happened, and what needs to happen next.
- Preparing clear, recommendation-led reporting and insights for the CFO, executive team, and Board.
- Building financial models to support pricing, tenders, commercial negotiations, and new market opportunities.
- Partnering with business leaders on commercial decisions, resourcing, performance, and growth opportunities — challenging assumptions and bringing an independent commercial view when the numbers don't support the plan.
- Improving the tools, templates, and processes behind financial planning and reporting as the business grows.
- Supporting the CFO on ad hoc commercial analysis and strategic projects as required.
What great looks like
-
Leaders understand what is driving their financial performance and what they need to do about it
- Budgets and forecasts are credible, current and actively used to run the business
- Margin trends and project risks are identified early, not explained after the fact
- Executive and Board reporting tells a clear story and supports better decision-making
- Commercial decisions are backed by sound modelling and properly tested assumptions
- Finance is seen as a trusted commercial partner to the business
- Reporting and forecasting processes remain reliable and scalable as Unita grows
Who this role suits
This role suits a commercially sharp finance professional who is comfortable operating with autonomy and influence. You can move between the detail and the bigger picture, build credibility with operational leaders and explain complex financial information without overcomplicating it.
You’re likely someone who is:
-
Commercially minded and genuinely curious about what drives business performance
- Clear and confident when communicating with non-finance audiences
- Proactive - you surface insights and risks before someone asks
- Comfortable challenging assumptions and holding a view
- Able to manage competing priorities without losing accuracy or perspective
- Naturally aligned to the Unita Way - you take responsibility, work well with others, and look for better ways of doing things
Experience we’re looking for
-
5+ years’ experience in commercial finance, FP&A or finance business partnering
- CA or CPA qualified
- Strong financial modelling and Excel capability
- Experience producing management reporting, Board materials and commercial analysis that supports decision-making
- Confidence working independently in a senior commercial finance role
- Experience with ERP and project accounting systems is an advantage
- Experience in construction, fitout, infrastructure or another project-based environment is beneficial, but not essential
